A resident of Dover, New Hampshire had intended to replace the windows in their old home from the late 1800s. However, the window technician who came to assess the project noticed that the windows were no longer square and difficult to open. The technician advised the homeowner to have their foundation inspected before proceeding with window replacement. The homeowner contacted EFS for a free foundation inspection, and our Design Specialist, Jason Vachon, met with them to conduct the inspection. Based on the findings, Jason recommended several products to stabilize the foundation, including installing a new section using Mason Block.

For the collapsing stone and brick foundation walls around the perimeter, our team supported them with an auxiliary, poured concrete wall system, complete with reinforced steel and rebar components. When it comes to field stone foundations, a lot of times this is the only solution that does not involve completely lifting the structure and pouring new foundation all together.
Once the old foundation walls were stabilized, our crew then replaced the failing lally column supports throughout the crawlspace area with our steel SmartJack supports. These new columns have large steel bases installed over large concrete or engineered fill footings, ensuring the weight load is properly distributed, as well as removing the chance for further settlement.
This property owner now has peace of mind knowing their old barn has a solid foundation, allowing them to preserve the structure above and keep it standing for years to come.
