Concrete Leveling in Dorchester, MA

Concrete Leveling in Dorchester, MA Concrete Leveling in Dorchester, MA

A residential building owner noticed concrete sinking along pathways on the property. These tripping hazards caused concern for the owner. Looking to level and stabilize the concrete, he reached out to Erickson Foundation Solutions.

Our Design Specialist, Kenneth Calabrese, recommended installing PolyLevel concrete leveling and NexusPro joint repair. PolyLevel is a polyurethane foam that fills voids underneath the concrete, almost instantly lifting and leveling it. This permanent solution is much quicker and cost effective compared to mudjacking or replacing the concrete. After PolyLevel lifted the concrete, NexusPro was used to seal the joints between the concrete. NexusPro stops water from infultrating the soil underneath the concrete, preventing concrete cracks or becoming uneven. It is resistant to UV rays to prevent the sealant from cracking, foaming, or drying.

With the concrete level and stabilized, the tripping hazards were eliminated. Along with a much more attractive look, this property owner has peace of mind that the walkways will remain safe.

Radon gas is produced from the decaying of rocks and soil and comes up from the ground into your crawlspace and basements. The way our radon mitigation systems works in a pipe collects the gases that are coming from the soil. The gas is then piped upwards where a depressurization vent forces the radon out from your home. Structural Concerns, Boston, MA

This homeowner in Boston, Massachusetts owns a building that they use as a rental property. The son of the owner lives on the top floor. The son recently went to Miami, Florida, and saw a building collapse while he was there. He had told his parents about the building collapse and told them that he was worried about their building in Boston. They decided to call EFS for an inspection of their building.

Design Specialist John Prince inspected the building. John had noticed there is a part of the building where three support beams meet at one point. If the one support fails then the whole building could potentially collapse. John recommended installing one SmartJack onto each of the three supports.

Crew Lead Scott Crandall and his team installed three SmartJacks to the support beams.

Concrete Deck is Pooling Water, Boston, MA

A homeowner in Boston, Massachusetts, just finished the basement in their home. With the basement finished the homeowner would like to guarantee that no water will enter the basement. In the back of the house, they have a concrete patio. Some of the slabs are sloping toward the home. To protect the home and the basement, the homeowner would like to lift and level those slabs and pitch the slabs away from the house. Pitching the slabs away from the house will help prevent water pooling against the home and potentially causing it to seep into the basement.

The homeowner called Erickson Foundation Solutions to see if we could accommodate his request. A Design Specialist from EFS inspected the home and determined that we could accommodate their request.

The PolyLevel Crew from EFS injected PolyLevel under the slabs in the backyard and made sure to slop the slab away from the house.

Radon Mitigation System, Dorchester, MA

These homeowners in Dorchester, Massachusetts, have done their research on Radon Mitigation. They have a recently flooded basement and are planning on finishing an area for their kids to play in. The homeowner knows and understands the harmful effects of breathing in radon and wants to make the radon levels in their basement as low as possible.

The homeowner called EFS for a recommendation on installing a Radon Mitigation System in their basement. A Design Specialist inspected the home and found the best place to install a Radon Mitigation System into the home.

The radon crew from EFS installed the Radon Mitigation System into the home and lowered the radon levels as much as possible.

Radon Mitigation System, South Boston, MA

An owner of a condo in South Boston, Massachusetts, had recently tested it for radon. The radon test results came back at 4.6 pCi/L. The homeowner would like to have the levels in their condo be as low as possible. Our design specialist recommended installing a radon mitigation system in the basement.

Our production team installed a radon mitigation system in the basement. The radon levels were reduced to a healthy level.

Basement Vapor Barrier, Charlestown, MA

The owner of this property in Charlestown, MA had recently purchased the home, and was taking on various projects in order to clean it up. One of the main projects they wished to complete was cleaning up a storage area in the basement. At the time of our inspection, the space was damp and dirty. The floor was partially covered with ripped plastic that was meant to conceal the dirt floor. It was difficult for the owner to get any use from the space since anything put in there would eventually get dirty or wet from the moisture.

Our design specialist informed the owner of our industry leading vapor barrier system called CleanSpace. With this vapor barrier installed, the storage space would have cleaner air, less moisture, would prevent unwanted pests from entering the space, and would allow them to get more use of the space (adding more value to their home!).

This was exactly what the homeowner wanted, and with the CleanSpace installed, the homeowner was thrilled with the outcome.

High Humidity in Basement, Charlestown, MA

This homeowner in Charlestown, MA was concerned with the humidity and air quality in the lower level of their home. They had an operational sump pump system already installed, which was effective in keeping their basement from flooding. However, they were still dealing with the problem of high humidity in the air. Our specialist was able to offer the ideal solution in the SaniDry Sedona dehumidification system.

With the SaniDry installed, the homeowner was able to control the air quality in their basement and no longer had concerns with humidity. The Sedona high performance dehumidification system is fully warrantied and tied directly into their existing pump system with an automatic drain, making it very user friendly. It's an Energy Star rated system with incredible power and durability.

ERV Installation, West Roxbury

A homeowner in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, lives in a home that was built over 100 years ago. The home was equipped with a radon mitigation system but the levels in their home were still above the recommended levels of 4.0 pCi/L. The homeowners decided to call EFS for a free inspection of their radon system to determine the next course of action. Our Design Specialist John did a thorough walkthrough of the home and recommended an ERV or Energy Recovery Ventilator to help with the air quality in the home. John designated the system to be installed under the stairs in the basement.

Our production team follow John's plan and installed the ERV system under the stairs in the basement. After the ERV was secured under the stairs the team began setting up the intake and exhaust pipes so the ERV system can bring in clean air and pull out the dirty air. The team was able to install and feed the intake and exhaust pipes and made sure the system was working properly.

The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the projects. The production team installed the ERV system into their home in only a couple of hours.

Maintain 150 Year Old Building Interior Push Piers, Boston, MA

The owner of a 150-year-old building in Boston, Massachusetts, was in Miami not too long ago and saw a building collapse while down there. Ever since they saw that building collapse they have been worried about their 3-story building in Boston. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection of their building. Our Design Specialist John recommended installing Push Piers under the middle brick support in the basement of the building.

Our installation team first identified the brick support that they were going to stabilize. The team then chipped out the concrete around three sides of the support so that they could install a Push Pier to each side of the brick column. The team then installed the Push Piers under the column and then began sending 3' sections of piers under the building until they reached their pressure goal for each Pier attached to the brick support. The team then capped each pier and installed rebar around the Push Piers brackets and then cast them in concrete.

The owner of the building was relieved of their concern after EFS installed the Push Piers into the basement.

Sloping and Separating Floors, Revere, MA

A homeowner in Revere, Massachusetts, has lived in their home for about a decade and has noticed in the past few years that the floors don't seem to be supported well. They have noticed some sagging and separation of the floors and supports. They had an engineer look at their floors and they recommended supplemental beams to be installed into the basement. They decided to call EFS to come to the home and find a solution to their problem. Our Design Specialist Kenny inspected the home like the engineer and recommended replacing the supports in the basement with our SmartJacks and installing supplemental beams to add support to the floor system.

Our installation team began by setting up temporary posts around the basement so we could remove the old supports. Once the temp supports were installed the team began removing the old supports. To begin installing our SmartJacks our team first chipped out a small section of concrete where we will install our footing under the slab and extend the post up with enough room to install our adjustable U bracket and supplemental beam. The team installed a total of 8 SmartJacks and 50 feet of supplemental beam into the basement. Once everything was prepared, the team then used the adjustable top to lift and add support to the floor system. After the floor was secured the team then poured new concrete over each of the SmartJack footings to lock them into place.

The homeowners were impressed with the results of the project. Their floors were no longer sloping and separating.

Condo Association Has Foundation Concerns, Brighton, MA

A condo association located in Brighton, Massachusetts was facing foundation issues in several buildings. The condo association manager approached EFS to assist with the repair of multiple units. EFS sent out Design Specialist Isaac Hernandez to assess the foundation of one particular unit. After inspection, Isaac recommended installing Push Piers, Helical Piers, and a basement slab pour in the condo's basement to prevent further sinking.

Edward N. led our Installation Team. We began by removing the basement slab and debris before exposing the footings. Once exposed, we attached our pier brackets and installed Push Piers and Helical Piers to stabilize the foundation. Our team used a hydraulic press to drive 3' sections of galvanized steel below the home for Push Piers and a hydraulic drive head to send Helical Piers below the home until they reached sufficient pressure. After securing all of the piers and stabilizing the foundation, our team called for a concrete truck to pour a new slab into the basement of the condo. We assisted in pouring and smoothing the concrete slab.

The condo owner and the association manager were satisfied with the project's outcome.

Concrete Walkway Repair, West Roxbury, MA

This homeowner in West Roxbury, MA reached out to our Erickson Foundation Solutions team due to some concerns he had with the concrete walkway at the front of his home. The walkway was about 18 feet long and 3 feet wide, connecting the front stairs of the house to the sidewalk along the street. In two separate locations along the walkway, the concrete had cracked and settled. This meant the main entrance to the home had unsafe trip hazards, and was also a pain to shovel in the winter, both of which the homeowner wanted a solution to.

Our specialist, Scott R., inspected the concrete walkway with the homeowner, and proposed a solution for lifting, leveling, and fully stabilizing the slabs with our PolyLevel product. The homeowner had also received quotes to tear out and replace the entire walkway, but ultimately decided to hire our Erickson team to fix the existing concrete, as this would save him time and money.

On the scheduled day of the project, our concrete repair specialists arrived on time and confirmed the scope of work with the homeowner. While PolyLevel would be used to fill the voids under the slabs and lift them back up, first they set up a slab jack system to loosen the concrete which had been sitting within it's soil base for over 25 years. By taking this extra step, the concrete is much less likely to crack while it is lifted with the PolyLevel material. With the concrete loosened, they then injected the polymer foam so that it penetrated the entirety of the void beneath the slab, and lifted it back up to a level position. Within just a few hours, the sunken concrete was repaired, and the trip hazards that the homeowner had been living with for years had disappeared. The cracks on the surface were then also sealed with NexusPro, a silicone based caulking specifically designed for exterior conditions and concrete. The homeowner was very pleased with the results and glad to no longer have to deal with an unsafe walkway or the nuisance of his snow shovel always getting caught up in the cracks.

Bulkhead Replacement, Charlestown, MA

A homeowner in Charlestown, Massachusetts, has lived in their home for the past 25 years. The home was built in the 1950s and some things around the home are at the point of replacement. The homeowners over the last few years have become frustrated with the look and functionality of their bulkhead. They don't like the way it looks anymore and the doors don't work well. The homeowners call EFS for a free inspection of their bulkhead. Our Design Specialist Scott Ruisi met with the homeowners and took measurements of their bulkhead. Scott sent the measurement of their bulkhead to our production team so we could order the correct-sized bulkhead.

Our installation team led by Eric Witham began by removing the old bulkhead and cleaning up the concrete it sits on. Next, the team began to assemble the new bulkhead and installed the new one into place. The team made sure to seal the perimeter to prevent any water from seeping under or through any cracks around the bulkhead door. The team tested the bulkhead to ensure everything was operational and then they showed the homeowner their new bulkhead.

The homeowners were very pleased with the installation of the bulkhead and they are very happy with the way it looks and operates.

Replacing a Broken Sump Pump System in Chelsea, MA

Tony W. in Chelsea, Massachusetts, has been dealing with water seepage in their basement corner for three years. Despite having a sump pump system installed by a previous company, the water continued to leak through the foundation. In search of a lasting solution to waterproof the basement, they contacted Erickson Foundation Solutions.

Our Customer Care team contacted Tony to address his concerns and arrange a complimentary home inspection. Tom Armano, our System Design Specialist, visited the home for a detailed inspection. Identifying the problematic areas and considering Tony's requirements, Tom suggested the installation of WaterGuard perimeter drainage and an UltraSump sump pump. This system intercepts water before it can reach the basement, directs it to the sump pump, and expels it from the house via an external discharge line. The crew initiated the project by removing an 8-inch wide section along the foundation floor's concrete where water was entering the basement corner. Concurrently, they constructed a 24-inch-deep basin to facilitate the downward flow of water. The water collected in the basin is then expelled by the UltraSump sump pump. After constructing the basin, the UltraSump was installed within it. Next, the external discharge line was connected to the sump pump and extended to the home's side yard. IceGuard, an anti-freeze discharge system, was attached to the line to prevent water from freezing in the pipes, thus averting winter basement floods due to pipe blockages. The project's concluding steps involved securing the waterproofing systems with concrete and concealing the external discharge line underground.

After the project was completed, the crew made certain the workspace was left clean. The crew leader, Anthony LoCascio, conducted a final walkthrough with the homeowner. He presented the completed work and addressed any lingering questions, leaving the homeowner delighted with the outcome!

Sump Pump Replacement in Winthrop, MA

We recently had the pleasure of assisting a homeowner in Winthrop, MA, with a rather tricky problem - their old sump pump had reached the end of its road, and they were understandably concerned. Using their basement primarily for storage, the unchecked moisture could've led to harmful mold or damaged stored items. They did the right thing reaching out to Erickson Foundation Solutions, kicking off their journey toward a dryer, safer basement.

The solution started with our Customer Care team coordinating a detailed home inspection. Our System Design Specialist Kenneth Calabrese promptly visited the site, diagnosing the core issue. After thorough evaluation, we confidently proposed installing a state-of-the-art TripleSafe Sump Pump system along with the IceGuard feature. Why TripleSafe, you ask? It's essentially like having three pumps in one ensuring the basement remains dry in all situations — be it a normal rainfall or a major storm when power often fails. Additionally, the IceGuard system was a perfect counterpart, designed to keep the discharge line from freezing during those brutally cold Massachusetts winters, a vital feature that ensures consistent operation year-round. Our dedicated production team expedited the work professionally. Out went the old, defective sump, followed by the old sump basin being concreted. Our crew installed a feed line stemming from the old basin to the new TripleSafe Sump Pump.

With efficiency and respect for the homeowner's space, we completed the installation, transforming a space once at mercy of faulty equipment into a confidently secured area perfect for storage. Not long after execution, the outcome spoke vividly of relief and satisfaction. The homeowner was impressed with a remarkable transformation - the previous relentless worry of entering a possibly wet or damaged basement was replaced with a confident stride.
