Waterproofing a Fieldstone Foundation in Somerville, MA

Recently, a homeowner in Somerville, MA, faced a daunting issue with their charming but aging home. With a foundation made of fieldstone, they were understandably worried about foundation erosion—an issue that could threaten the stability and safety of their beloved home. Aware of these risks, they reached out to us at Erickson Foundation Solutions, seeking a reliable and lasting fix to their dilemma.

From the get-go, our Customer Care team was on the ball, quickly setting up an inspection to assess the situation fully. Our expert System Design Specialist Scott Ruisi visited the property, meticulously inspecting the site to tailor a perfect solution for the homeowner's specific issue. After the assessment, it was clear what needed to be done to safeguard the home against water damage and potential foundation problems. Our dedicated production team got to work, installing our tried and tested WaterGuard system along the interior of the basement. This innovative system effectively channels unwanted water away from the foundation, ensuring the basement remains dry year-round. Additionally, the TripleSafe Sump Pump was put in to offer triple the protection against water accumulation, including in the scenario of power outages. To combat the harsh Massachusetts winters, we installed IceGuard to ensure the discharged water didn't back up due to frozen pipes. Lastly, the environment needed to be free from dampness and humidity, which was where our SaniDry Sedona came into play, cleaning and drying the air to ensure a healthy living environment.

Through teamwork and our dedicated expertise, the homeowner's worries about erosion and water damage vanished. The homeowner was left not just with a dry and secure basement, but with the peace of mind knowing their foundation was protected for the long haul.

Finished Basement Waterproofing in Somerville, MA

Sarah R. of Somerville, Massachusetts was experiencing ongoing seepage in her finished basement despite already having a sump pump system installed. Water mainly entered through the foundation walls, creating ongoing puddles and damaging drywall. In order to reclaim her living space, she reached out to Erickson Foundation Solutions.

Our Design Specialist, Tom Armano, recommended installing WaterGuard perimeter drainage, TripleSafe sump pump system, and a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. This system is designed to capture water along the border of the foundation, similar to an interior French drain, and direct the water to the sump pump, where it is then pumped out of the house through an exterior discharge line. The perimeter drainage system was essential for making sure water was not at risk of leaking through the foundation, which the previous waterproofing system installed was unable to do. Our installation crew installed the brand-new waterproofing system by chipping out concrete along the entire perimeter of the basement. Once the concrete was removed, the WaterGuard system was put in place within crushed stone. This ensured proper flow to the sump pump. A sump basin was created to allow the downward flow of water for the sump pump to collect and then pump out. With the sump pump system now in the basin, it was connected to the WaterGuard system. With both systems installed and working properly, they are cemented in place. The exterior discharge line was then installed to the sump pump and buried in a safe location away from the home. Lastly, the SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed and connected to the TripleSafe. This eliminates moisture in the basement, creating a comfier and healthier living space. Since it is connected to the TripleSafe, water collected from the dehumidifier is automatically drained and pumped out of the home, creating a hassle-free process.

After finishing the installation process, foreman, Ryan Champagne, performed a final walkthrough with the Sarah to showcase the work performed and answer any remaining questions. She can now use the basement with peace of mind that it will stay dry all the time.

Sump Pump and Dehumidifier Installation, Somerville, MA

Ozair A. had recently purchased a home in Somerville, Massachusetts and wanted to take preventative measures to ensure his basement remains dry. He did, however, notice that mold had formed in the basement. After being recommended to us, Ozair called our Customer Care team to schedule a free inspection.

An appointment was scheduled for our Design Specialist, Debra Rayborn, to come out to the home and assess the situation. After speaking with Ozair and his wife, Debra recommended installing our UltraSump sump pump and SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. This system waterproofs the basement by collecting unwanted water at the lowest point of the foundation and disposing of it away from the home through a drainage line. The SaniDry Sedona removes humidity and condensation in the home, providing better air quality. This removes toxins in the air such as mold spores, which Ozair was looking to accomplish. Our installation crew chipped out concrete in the area where the sump pump was planned to be installed. After creating a basin for the pump to rest in, the sump pump was put in place. After the drainage line was added, IceGuard was installed to it to prevent it from freezing. This further guarantees the basement won't flood. The sump pump was then cemented in place. The SaniDry Sedona was also installed and connected to the sump pump. It drains directly into the pump, making the process hassle-free.

Ozair now has peace of mind that he will have a safe and dry basement. Our team was thrilled to provide him with the solution he was looking for, and he was very happy as well!

Water Seeping onto Floor of Finished Basement, Somerville, MA

Around four years ago, a homeowner in Somerville, Massachusetts purchased a house. Recently, they noticed minor water seepage in their finished basement and contacted Erickson Foundation Solutions to explore their options. They scheduled a meeting with Tom Armano, our Design Specialist, who inspected the basement and recommended a perimeter drainage system. However, since the seepage was minor, the homeowner opted not to install a full drainage system. As an alternative, Tom suggested our ThermalDry Basement Flooring, which resembles regular flooring but has built-in drainage, a thermal barrier, and is not damaged by moisture or mold. The homeowner liked this proposal and decided to have us install ThermalDry Flooring in their basement.

Our installation team removed the damaged wooden floors and installed ThermalDry over the concrete slab. The flooring comes in planks that snap together and allow water to drain. The homeowner was pleased with the drainage system installed.

Watering Coming into Basement of 1920s Home, Somerville, MA

A family home in Somerville, Massachusetts, has been in the family for over 30 years. The homeowners plan to use the home as a family/ rental property. They have seen water entering the basement for as long as they can remember. The kids are in charge of the decision-making for the property and decided to call EFS for a free inspection of the home. Our Design Specialist Keith Soper met with the homeowner and then inspected the basement to determine a solution for the home. After Keith completed his inspection he recommended installing a full perimeter drainage system into the basement to collect any water and pump it outside the home.

Our installation team led by Anthony LoCascio began by chipping out the perimeter of the basement so we could install our perimeter drainage and sump pump. After the concrete was chipped out with a jackhammer the team removed all of the debris and then installed 140 feet of WaterGuard around the perimeter of the basement and installed our SuperSump. After the drainage and sump pump were installed the team then plumbed the sump pump to the exterior of the home where we installed our IceGuard and Exterior Drainage Line. The IceGuard will prevent water from backing up into the basement in case the EDL froze. The EDL will extend 10 feet away from the foundation of the home. After the exterior drainage was installed and buried the team returned into the basement to mix concrete and cover the WaterGuard and around the SuperSump to lock it in place.

When the concrete cured and the job was complete the homeowners looked at what the team installed and they were very impressed. The system collects water from under the slab and from the wall and that water collects in the SuperSump which is pumped out through the IceGuard and EDL away from the foundation of the home.

Water Occasionally Floods Basement, Somerville, MA

A homeowner in Somerville, Massachusetts, had moved into their home about a year ago. The home was built in 1905 and the homeowners wanted to finish their basement but the previous owners had warned them about the basement flooding in the past. The current homeowners didn't want to risk a flood after the basement was finished so they decided to call EFS for a free inspection. Our Design Specialist Kenny recommended installing a full perimeter drainage system, which included: WaterGuard, Trench Drain, TripleSafe, and IceGuard.

Our production team began by setting up for the sump pump and the perimeter drainage. The team first sets up where the TripleSafe will be installed, and then chips out the entire perimeter of the basement to install the WaterGuard. Once the entire perimeter of the basement and the basin for the sump were chipped out, the team then installed the TripleSafe and WaterGuard/TrenchDrain into the basement. After the perimeter drainage was installed and the sump was installed and plumbed the team covered the WaterGuard and poured concrete around the basin of the sump pump to protect them. While the concrete was curing the team installed the Iceguard to the exterior drainage line to prevent the system from backing up into the basement.

The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the project. The homeowners are very confident that they won't have to deal with water affecting their finished basement.

Wooden Supports To Be Replaced With SmartJacks, Somerville, MA

An owner of a condo in Somerville, Massachusetts, owned a 2 unit condo that had wooden support posts installed in the basement. The previous owner had installed the wooden supports and they were not up to code and the floors had started to slope. The owner of the condo decided to call EFS to have a specialist come out. Our design specialist recommended replacing the wooden supports that weren't to code with SmartJacks that were to code.

Our production first began by setting up temporary posts in the basement. The temporary post will add support to the floors above when the team removed the wooden supports. After the temp posts are installed the team began to remove each wooden post. Next, the team started chipping out concrete to install the footing of the SmartJack. The team chipped out concrete to install 14 SmartJacks into the basement. Each SmartJack used the biggest foot we have because each SmartJacks had to stabilize a 3-story building. The team makes sure to level the footings and then secure the SmartJacks to the beam or supplemental beam above. The team attached 7 SJ to the main beam in the basement to support the main load of the condo. Then the team installed 7 SJ with 30' of supplement beams to add extra support to the areas where the floor had sloped. Once all the new supports are connected to either a beam or supplemental beam the team made sure to double-check if everything is level. After everything was leveled the team casts all of the footings in concrete to lock the supports in place and to eliminate any tripping hazards. Lastly, the team removed the temporary supports from the basement.

The owner of the condo was pleased that their building is now under code. They no longer have to worry about the stability of the floor.

Wooden Supports To Be Replaced With SmartJacks, Somerville, MA - Photo 1
Replacing Supports to Level Main Floor, Somerville, MA

A homeowner in Somerville, Massachusetts, had uneven floors in their 1800's home. The homeowners have lived in their home for the past 3 years and had noticed the uneven floors as soon as they moved in. They would like to have the floors leveled and stabilized as much as possible. Our design specialist recommended lifting and stabilizing the floors with 8 SmartJacks.

Our production team began by setting up temporary supports around the basement so they could remove the old lally columns. After the temp posts were set up, the team ripped out the old lally columns and began chipping out concrete in the basement for the 8 SmartJack footings. The team chipped out 2'x2' concrete chunks so they can dig down and pour a solid footing for the new supports. With a mixture of Engineered fill, rebar, and concrete the team can create solid footings within this 2'x2' hole. After the team created the footing for each SmartJack, they waited for each one to cure. Once the footings were cured they can begin to install all of the support posts. The team first laid the bottom of each SmartJacks onto the footing, then each post was secured to the main beam to stabilize and lift the floors. The team ensures that each SmartJack was level before they poured concrete over each SmartJack footing. Once the Smartjacks were fully secured the team used the adjustable top of the SmartJack to lift and level the floor.

The homeowners were very pleased with everything that was done. They no longer have to worry about their floors being uneven or unstable.

Floors aren't Level, Somerville, MA

A homeowner in Somerville, Massachusetts, had concerns with their floors on the first level. They wanted to remodel the home in the future but wanted to address the floors before then. All of the supports in the basement are temp lally columns. Our design specialist Michael B. examined the floors and determined that they are sinking 1-3/4"-2" down. Michael recommended replacing the temporary lally columns in the basement with SmartJack XT and performing a lift and level of the floor procedure.

Our team led by Matt C. installed 8 SmartJacks. The team first chipped out concrete for the base of the support to sit under the basement slab. They then used concrete and engineered fill to make a strong base for the SmartJack to rest on. The support is then attached to the beams above. The team used the adjustable top to lift the floors back to level.

Stabilize Floors for Renovations, Somerville, MA

A homeowner recently moved into their home in Somerville, Massachusetts. The home was built in 1900 and the homeowner would like to start renovating the home immediately. The first project the homeowner would like to address is stabilizing the floors. Our design specialist examined the basement and found that the floors have sagged 2-7/8". Our specialist recommended replacing the supports in the basement with new lally columns and a SmartJack.

Our team began by adding temporary posts into the basement to take the stress off the old posts. Then one by one the crew removed the old supports and chipped out new bases. The team secured the lally columns and the SmartJack to the beam above and lifted the beam to eliminate the sag in the floor.

Waterproofing and SmartJacks Installation, Somerville, MA

This homeowner in Somerville, Massachusetts was experiencing water entering their basement every time it rains and also experiencing some issues with the supports in their basement. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection.

Design Specialist Kenny Calabrese arrived at the home and inspected the basement. Kenny found some little holes in the foundation that could allow water to enter through the wall and he also found that the supports in the basement didn't look to be supporting the home very well. Kenny recommended installing SmartJacks to replace the old supports in the basement and to then spray Poly Wall Restoration to the interior basement wall to prevent water from getting through the wall in the basement.

Crew Lead Ed Nadreau and his team arrived at the home and installed the SmartJacks and then sprayed the walls with the Poly Wall Restoration to seal the 1920s foundation.

Leaning Foundation Walls, Somerville, MA

A Duplex in Somerville, Massachusetts has some concerns about its foundation. Both of the owners came together and called Erickson Foundation Solutions. Design Specialist Kyle Jamerson came to the home and inspected the foundation and confirmed the owner's fears. Roots from a nearby tree are pushing against the foundation causing it to lean inward. Kyle proposed that the Erickson Crew install PowerBraces to add support to the foundation walls.

Crew Lead Scott Crandall and his team came to the duplex and installed 12 PowerBraces to the right and backside of the foundation. The PowerBraces will add support to the foundation wall while also straightening out the wall.

The owners were relieved when the project was done because they wanted their home to maintain its value in case either of them tries to sell.
