Radon Gas Mitigation Systems

Radon gas is colorless, odorless, and as cancer-causing as to//bacco and asbestos. Radon gas is produced from the decaying of rocks and soil and comes up from the ground into your crawlspace and basements. The way our radon mitigation systems works in a pipe collects the gases that are coming from the soil. The gas is then piped upwards where a depressurization vent forces the radon out from your home. Our radon mitigation system is completely compatible with the current waterproofing system in your home. Get in contact with us now to learn how to protect your loved ones from the harmful effects of radon gas.

Job Stories From Marlborough, MA
Stabilizing New Home in Marlborough, MA

When a new homeowner in Marlborough, MA, noticed the cinderblocks supporting the crawl space's supplemental beam, they were rightly concerned and reached out to us. Understanding the excitement and anxiety that comes with new homeownership, especially concerning structural integrity, we were driven to provide a swift and durable solution.

Upon the homeowner's request, our Customer Care team promptly scheduled an appointment. System Design Specialist Mark Proctor then visited to thoroughly inspect the issue at hand. The diagnosis was quick but thorough, pinpointing the instability and potential for future sagging or damage due to the use of cinderblocks. The recommendation was straightforward: Installation of SmartJacks along with a new supplemental beam. SmartJacks are steel support systems designed for this very purpose; to provide solid, adjustable support that can bear the weight far better than makeshift cinderblock solutions. The homeowner agreed, and we set a date for the installation. The production team, consisting of foreman Ed Nadreau and several skilled installers, arrived on time and got straight to work. They removed the old cinderblock supports and replaced them with SmartJacks, ensuring the new supplemental beam was placed with precision. It wasn't just about installing new parts – it was about giving the homeowner peace of mind. After installation, we made sure to leave the crawl space and the surrounding area clean, just as we found it.

The outcome was a more stable, secure, and safer foundation. The homeowner was relieved, now confident in the structural integrity of their new home. It's exactly the kind of result that drives us, banking on our mission to provide a remarkable customer experience matched with reliable and lasting solutions for every home.

Water Entering Basement from Wall and Floor, Marlborough, MA

A long-time resident of Marlborough, Massachusetts, had been experiencing water infiltration in their basement through the walls and floors despite having a sump pump already installed. Worried about the potential damage, they contacted EFS for a complimentary inspection of their basement. EFS Design Specialist/Service Technician, Justin Colin, met with the homeowner and conducted a thorough assessment of the basement. Justin recommended the installation of CleanSpace and WaterGuard to prevent further water penetration.

EFS Installation Team, led by Branden Edwards, then chipped out a 6-inch section of concrete from the wall and set up perimeter drainage in a trench against the wall. The team then installed CleanSpace on the wall and connected it to the drainage system. After integrating the two systems, the team then linked the drainage to the existing sump pump and poured concrete over the top of the drainage system.

This system can effectively collect water from the walls or the floor and send it to the sump pump, which then disposes of the water outside of the house. The homeowners were thrilled with the successful outcome of the project.

Sloping Main Beam, Marlborough, MA

A homeowner in Marlborough, Massachusetts, had an issue where the main beam was sloping. The homeowner planned to stay in the home for a long time and wanted to have the issue repaired. The homeowner had a structural engineer inspect their home. The engineer found that the main beam sank because the support posts were settling. With this knowledge, our design specialist John recommended installing 3 Helical Piers as bases that won't sink. Then with the Helical Piers as bases, John recommended installing SmartJacks on top of the helicals to then connect to the main beam.

Our production team started by chipping out three small sections of concrete. After the team removed the concrete they used a handheld drive head to screw in the helical piers under the slab. Each helical pier will be driven down until sufficient pressure is found. Once the team found sufficient pressure for each helical pier they capped each one with a special top that they cast in concrete so it cannot move laterally. Once the concrete is cured the team began to install the SmartJacks. The team used our smaller SmartJack bases to set on top of the helical piers platform. The team then installed the SmartJack to the main beam using an adjustable bracket. The team used screws to secure the bracket to the main beam. After the SmartJacks were secured to the main beam the team used the adjustable top to lift up on the beam to make it level.

The homeowners were very happy with the results of the project. The homeowners don't have to worry about the main beam sloping anymore.

Looking to Upgrade Sump Pump, Marlborough, MA

This owner of a condo in Marlborough, Massachusetts wanted to upgrade their current sump pump. The current pump fails often and water builds up in the basement. They would like to use the basement for storage without worrying if their things are going to get damaged. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection.

Design Specialist Tom Armano inspected the home and found an old sump pump that was undersized for the size of the basement. Tom recommended installing a Super Sump into the basement replacing the old sump pump. He also recommended installing new plumbing from the sump pump and adding IceGuard to ensure the water is removed from the basement and doesn't freeze.

Crew Lead Gilberto Cortijo and his team arrived at the home and installed the Super Sump, new piping, and the IceGuard.

Home is Sinking Down Steep Incline, Marlboro, MA

Greg B. of Marlboro, Massachusetts was experiencing cracking in his garage that had been previously sealed by another company. He called EFS and they sent Design Specialist John Prince to the home to look at the cracks. John found that yes, there was cracking in the garage and some in the home perimeter, but the cracking was caused by something bigger. The root cause of the cracks was that the home was sinking down a steep incline. John recommended push piers to Greg. John also said without push piers these cracks will continue to worsen until you can stop the home from sinking. Since the house was built in 2002 and he and his family have been living there since 2004 he wanted to do whatever he could to strengthen the house for the long term.

Crew Lead Spencer Ladd and his team came to the home to install Push Piers on the foundation of the home. They only could install one push pier on the exterior of the home due to some hardscape and landscaping. Because of that four of the five push piers were installed inside of a utility room in the basement.

To stop the home from sinking the team needed to mount a bracket to the foundation footing and then drive rods down under the home till they reach a sustainable pressure to stop the home from sinking. The Crew finished the project quickly and kept Greg informed with every step of the project.

Greg left EFS a review of his experience with the company. The review is as follows: "Very professional, communicative, well organized. Arrived on the date they planned and finished the job on time. The staff was happy to answer questions. The foundation repair was done well and I was amazed at how clean they kept the area where they installed the piers. I would highly recommend this company for foundation and concrete work".
