The entrance way and concrete patio outside this condo residence in Cambridge, Massachusetts was cracked, discolored, and showing signs of settlement. Our specialist showed them how our team could address all their concerns and protect the concrete against future problems as well.

After lifting and stabilizing the concrete, our production team also applied DecoShield, which acts as a concrete sealant to prevent water from seeping into the concrete. This sealant material also had a gray tint, and so the surface of the concrete looks new again. The transformation of the entrance way for this community is not only safer now, but brighter and cleaner.

Radon Gas Mitigation Systems

Radon gas is colorless, odorless, and as cancer-causing as to//bacco and asbestos. Radon gas is produced from the decaying of rocks and soil and comes up from the ground into your crawlspace and basements. The way our radon mitigation systems works in a pipe collects the gases that are coming from the soil. The gas is then piped upwards where a depressurization vent forces the radon out from your home. Our radon mitigation system is completely compatible with the current waterproofing system in your home. Get in contact with us now to learn how to protect your loved ones from the harmful effects of radon gas.

Job Stories From Cambridge, MA
Musty Odors Coming from Basement in Cambridge, MA

We recently had the privilege of assisting a couple from Cambridge, MA, who were expecting their first child. The upcoming arrival of their baby had them reassessing their living conditions, particularly the air quality of their home. It was crucial for them to provide a safe and healthy environment for their growing family. Upon contacting our Customer Care team, they expressed their concerns about the mold and dampness in their unfinished basement, as these could significantly impact the air quality throughout their home. Our team rapidly set into motion, sending out System Design Specialist, Kenneth Calabrese to conduct a thorough inspection of their home. Quickly, we diagnosed the core of their concern: the basement's humidity levels were indeed higher than recommended, posing a latent risk not just to their air quality, but to their home's structure down the line. The perfect solution was our SaniDry Sedona—an efficient and powerful dehumidifier specifically designed for such situations. The SaniDry Sedona is unique because it not only reduces basement and crawl space humidity, but also filters out airborne mold spores, mites, and other allergens. With its installation, we guaranteed them a cleaner, dryer, and healthier environment for their newborn. Our production crew, led by Kyle DeChane and skilled installers, then took over the reins. They worked systematically and empathetically, well aware of the importance of the task at hand. Post installation, they took the time to thoroughly clean the basement, leaving it better than when they arrived. The outcome was a resounding success.

Radon Concerns, Cambridge, MA

This homeowner in Cambridge, Massachusetts, just went through the process of purchasing their home. During the purchasing process of the home, the inspector noted checking the radon levels. After living in their home for only a few days the homeowners reached out to EFS for a radon inspection. Our Design Specialist Dan Gillette first met with the homeowners to drop off our Radon Test Kit. Dan set up the kit in the basement and made sure to tell the homeowners to keep the doors and windows shut as much as possible during the 48-hour radon test. After the 48-hour test was complete Dan returned to the home and went over the results with the homeowners. The test results averaged around 8 pCi/L so Dan recommended and designed a radon mitigation system to install inside the home.

Our Installation Team led by Branden Edwards, began by creating a radon extraction point in the basement slab. We created a 3" wide circular hole in the slab so we could install a 3" PVC pipe from the extraction point to the exterior of the home. Once at the exterior of the home, the team then installed our radon fan onto the side of the home. Once installed the team then secured the PVC pipe to the radon fan and vented the system above the roofline of the home.

With the system installed, we were able to lower the radon levels to a comfortable level under 4.0 pCi/L. The homeowner was happy with the results of the project and don't have to worry about radon inside their home.

Brick and Mortar Deterioration, Cambridge, MA

A homeowner in Cambridge, Massachusetts, had lived in their home for the past 44 years. Recently their daughter moved back into the home and noticed mortar and brick deterioration and was worried about the effects it could have on the entire home. The homeowners decided to call EFS for a free inspection. Our Design Specialist recommended installing 5 SmartJacks with 3 of them supporting a Supplemental beam.

Our production team began by marking where each of the 5 SmartJacks will be installed. Once each spot is located the team then chipped a section of concrete where each footing will be installed. Our team then installed our big footing beneath the concrete. Once the footing was placed in the dirt under the concrete the team installed the SmartJack and Supplemental beam to the floor system above. They made sure to level the footing and SmartJack before pouring concrete over them to lock them in place.

The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the project. The project was completed within a couple of days and the crew left their home cleaner than they found it.

Brick Pillars to be Replaced, Cambridge, MA

A property management company wanted to have the brick columns in the basement of one of their buildings replaced with new supports. The management company called EFS for a free inspection and our Design Specialist recommended replacing the 13 brick columns with 24 SmartJacks throughout the basement and also installing a SaniDry to control the humidity in the basement.

Our production team began by setting up temporary posts in the basement. The temp post will support the floors of the home when the team was removing the 13 brick columns in the basement. The team knocked out all of the brick columns and removed all of the debris before beginning to install the SmartJacks. To prepare for the installation of the SmartJacks the team first mapped out where each of the supports will be installed. After a plan was in place the team then dug footings for each SmartJack. The team dug a 2' X 2' X 2' footing for each of the 24 SmartJacks. In the footings, the team then installed engineered fill and rebar and then covered each of them with concrete. After the footings were all cured, the team then installed the SmartJacks over the new footings and secured them to the support beams above. Once the team secured the new support to the floor system they then gently lifted the floor to add support. After each support was double-checked for being straight up and down and level the team then cast the base of the SmartJacks in concrete to lock them in place.

The homeowners and the management company were very pleased with the results of the project. The brick post removal and the SmartJacks installation couldn't have gone better. The crew had checked in with them every step of the way and there were no surprises at the end of the project.

Needs New Supports and Repair Leaky Foundation, Cambridge, MA

A homeowner in Cambridge, Massachusetts, had lived in their home for the past 20 years. They have had water coming through their fieldstone foundation and had issues with the supports in the basement for a while. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection and our Design Specialist recommended installing PolyLevel Wall Restoration to the fieldstone foundation wall and replacing the supports in the basement with SmartJacks to stabilize the floors.

Our production team began by spraying the fieldstone walls with PolyLevel Wall Restoration to stop water from seeping through the gaps in the foundation wall. To install the PolyLevel Wall Restoration the crew had to make sure no one was in the home during the application of the spray foam or in the 24 hours post installation for safety concerns. After the PolyLevel Wall Restoration was complete the team then started replacing the supports in the basement with SmartJacks.

The homeowners were happy with the results of the project. The team successfully sealed the foundation wall with foam to prevent any water or further crumbling of the fieldstone wall. They also stabilized the old floors with SmartJacks.

Late 1800s Home Fieldstone Foundation Was Crumbling, Cambridge, MA

A homeowner in Cambridge, Massachusetts, lived in a late 1800s home that had an issue with the fieldstone foundation crumbling. The homeowners would like to find a way to prevent the fieldstone from crumbling. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection, and our design specialist recommended coating the fieldstone foundation with PolyLevel Wall Restoration to prevent it from crumbling.

Our team first made sure that everything was removed from the walls and then covered all personal belongings with tarps to protect them. Once everything was moved and protected the team began spraying Poly. The team covered the entire fieldstone foundation inside the basement with PolyLevel Wall Restoration. Once the Poly makes contact with the air it begins to expand. This allows it to seal any gaps in the fieldstone.

The homeowners were very please with the results of the project.

Early 1900's Condo Needed New Basement Supports, Cambridge, MA

A condo in Cambridge, Massachusetts, was built in the early 1900s and was experiencing some cracking drywall and rusted columns in their basement. The tenants think the cracks on the drywall were an eyesore and the floor felt weak. The manager of the condo decided to call EFS for an inspection of the supports in their basement. Our specialist recommended replacing 6 supports in the basement with 7 SmartJacks.

Our production team began by chipping out concrete footings for each SmartJack. The team removed a couple of inches of concrete so they could install the footing of the SmartJacks. Once all of the footings were installed the team set up the SmartJacks using our small base plates. The team secured the SmartJacks to the beams above and set the base into the concrete. Once the team secured the SmartJacks to the main beam with heavy-duty screws they made sure that the SmartJacks were perfectly level before setting the footings in concrete.

The owner of the condo and the tenants were very pleased with the results of the job. The SmartJacks will prevent the floors from sagging and the drywall from cracking.
