A homeowner in Acton, Massachusetts was preparing to sell his home. In order to protect the value of the home, he wanted to repair cracks in his foundation. These cracks had been present when he purchased the home 11 years ago but have been worsening much more in recent years. He reached out to our Erickson team for a permanent solution.

Mark Proctor, one of our Design Specialists, went out to conduct a free inspection on the home. He recommended installing PolyLevel injection foam and NexusPro crack and joint sealant. The PolyLevel foam is injected underneath the concrete to fill voids which cause sinking, thus lifting and leveling the concrete. Once the concrete is leveled, NexusPro sealant is injected into the cracks. This product is engineered to provide long-lasting flexibility and stand up to harsh weather conditions, which means no cracking, drying, or bubbling.

One the job is finished, a long-lasting foundation floor is created. This homeowner can now sell his home knowing its value is protected.

Radon Gas Mitigation Systems

Radon gas is colorless, odorless, and as cancer-causing as to//bacco and asbestos. Radon gas is produced from the decaying of rocks and soil and comes up from the ground into your crawlspace and basements. The way our radon mitigation systems works in a pipe collects the gases that are coming from the soil. The gas is then piped upwards where a depressurization vent forces the radon out from your home. Our radon mitigation system is completely compatible with the current waterproofing system in your home. Homeowners Concerned with Air Quality Inside Home, Acton, MA

A homeowner in Acton, Massachusetts, has lived in their late 1800s home for the past 7 years. Recently they have become concerned with the air quality inside their home. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection of the home to find a solution that would ease their concerns. Our Design Specialist Jared Pavluvcik met with the homeowners and talked to them about their concerns. After a conversation with the homeowners, Jared inspected the basement and proposed a solution that would ease their concerns. He recommended installing an Energy Recovery Ventilator system or ERV to keep fresh air coming into the basement and the rest of the home.

Our installation team led by Steve Dumais began by finding a place where we could install the ventilation system. The team secured the system against the wall inside the basement and then set up the 4 air ducts that will carry old air out of the basement and replace it with new air.

The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the project.

Water Seeping into 125 Year-Old Basement, Acton, MA

A homeowner in Acton, Massachusetts, residing in a house that is over 125 years old has been experiencing water seepage in their basement for the past 25+ years. Initially, the seepage only caused puddles on the basement floor, but over time it became a persistent issue. After much deliberation, the homeowner reached out to EFS for a solution. Our Design Specialist, Tom Armano, inspected the entire basement and recommended the installation of a perimeter drainage system to collect any water that seeps onto the basement floor. The proposed drainage system consisted of 150 feet of WaterGuard, an UltraSump, an IceGuard, an Exterior Drainage Line, and a SaniDry Sedona.

Our Installation Team, led by Gunther and Paul, began by chipping out concrete around the entire perimeter of the basement. This concrete was chipped out to form a 6-inch wide trench to accommodate the WaterGuard. The team also chipped out a hole in the concrete to fit the UltraSump Basin beneath the slab to collect and pump out water before it seeps onto the basement floor. All 150 feet of WaterGuard were installed, followed by the UltraSump. The two systems were then connected so that any water from the perimeter drainage would be guided to the sump pump and pumped out away from the home. After installing the perimeter drain and sump, the team fed the lines from the sump pump to the exterior of the home. An IceGuard was then installed on the exterior of the home to protect the line from backing up if the exterior line ever froze. The team also installed a drainage line to carry water away from the foundation of the home. After the lines were installed and buried, the team returned to the basement, mixed up concrete, and poured it over the WaterGuard, and around the UltraSump basement. Once the concrete was cured, the last item to be installed in the basement was a SaniDry Sedona, which helps control the moisture inside the basement.

The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the project. They no longer have to worry about water seeping onto the basement floor.

Water and Moisture Build Up After Pump Failure, Acton, MA

A homeowner from Acton, Massachusetts bought a house six years ago. The 1980s home had a sump pump in the basement, but it recently malfunctioned. As a result, the basement was affected by water buildup and moisture. The homeowner then contacted EFS for a complimentary inspection of their basement. Our Design Specialist, Liam FitzPatrick, met with the homeowner and surveyed the basement of their house. After a thorough examination, Liam suggested replacing the existing sump pump with a TripleSafe, which included IceGuard, LawnScape Outlet, and a 35' Exterior Drainage Line.

Our Installation Team, led by Branden Edwards, started by removing the old sump pump from the basement. The team then proceeded to remove the concrete around the pump so that they could install the more significant and efficient sump pump. Once they installed the TripleSafe in the basement, the team then connected the system to the outside of the house where we could put the IceGuard, Exterior Drainage Line, and LawnScape Outlet to carry water away from the foundation of the house. After the drainage system was in place, our team covered the 35' drainage line to conceal it.

The homeowner was delighted with the new TripleSafe and Drainage Line installation, as their basement was no longer affected by water and moisture.

DIY Waterproofing Solution Failed, Acton, MA

These Acton, Massachusetts homeowners reside in a house constructed in 1921, where they have lived for the past three decades. They've encountered persistent water seepage into their basement over the years, despite trying several "Do It Yourself" approaches, none of which proved durable. After a few failed DIY attempts, the homeowner decided to seek professional help for a permanent solution. The homeowners enlisted EFS for a free inspection, and our Design Specialist, Tom Armano, met with them to investigate their basement and determine a solution to their water seepage problems. After the inspection, Tom suggested installing a perimeter drainage system inside the basement to collect any water that attempted to seep in.

Our Installation Team, led by Steve Dumais, began by chipping out concrete around the perimeter for our drainage and sump pump. Once the concrete was chipped out, the team installed 58 feet of WaterGuard around the perimeter and installed our SuperSump. We then directed the sump pump to the exterior of the house, where we fitted our IceGuard and Exterior Drainage Line. We returned to the basement to mix concrete and pour it over the WaterGuard and around the SuperSump to secure them in place.

Installing this system will prevent water from seeping into the basement and accumulating on the floors. The homeowners no longer have to worry about finding the next DIY solution to stop water from entering their home.

Repairing Seepage Before Selling Home, Acton, MA

A homeowner from Acton, Massachusetts, purchased a house with the aim of flipping it for a profit. The property was built back in 1950 and had been experiencing seepage since the homeowner acquired it. To address this issue, the homeowner contacted EFS for a free home inspection. Design Specialist Tom Armano was assigned to assess the property and recommended the installation of a full perimeter drainage system, Rim Joist Insulation, and CleanSpace in the basement to prevent water penetration, drafts of air, and humidity.

EFS's Installation Team, led by Branden Edwards, began the project by installing 102 feet of WaterGuard around the basement perimeter to collect any water attempting to enter the basement. Afterward, the team integrated a TripleSafe into the perimeter drainage system to collect and expell water out of the home. Following the installation of the drainage system, the team executed Drainage Matting, CleanSpace, and Rim Joist Insulation into the crawlspace to control the air and moisture.

The homeowner expressed satisfaction with the project's outcome and was delighted to put the house up for sale.

Current Waterproofing Solution is Failing, Acton, MA

A homeowner in Acton, Massachusetts, has lived in their 1700s home for the past 30+ years. They had a failing waterproofing system in their basement that was allowing some water to enter their basement. Over the last couple of years, the homeowner has seen more and more water entering their basement. The homeowner decided to call EFS for a free inspection. Our Design Specialist Liam inspected the basement and recommended installing a better waterproofing system that included perimeter drainage, a sump pump, CleanSpace, and a dehumidifier, and then replacing some supports in the basement.

Our installation team began by installing 5 SmartJacks to the floor system of the 1700s home to add support. Next, the team began chipping out concrete for the sump pump and perimeter drainage. The team chipped out a total of 110' of concrete so we could install out TripleSafe, WaterGuard, and TrenchDrain. Once the concrete was chipped out the team installed our TripleSafe and plumbed the system to the exterior of the home. After the sump was installed, the team then installed CleanSpace on the wall before we installed the perimeter drainage. The CleanSpace will collect any water that enters the basement through the wall and guide it into the drainage system. Once the CleanSpace was integrated into the perimeter drainage and the drainage was connected to the sump pump, the team then encased the drainage system and the sump pump in concrete. The final part of the job was to wait for the concrete to cure and install the SaniDry Sedona and connect the drainage line to the sump pump.

The homeowner was very pleased with the results of the project. The homeowner now doesn't have to worry about water entering their basement anymore.

Rusted Lally Columns Replaced, Acton, MA

A homeowner in Acton, Massachusetts, had just purchased their home 2 weeks ago. A home inspector looked around the entire home to ensure that the home was in good standing. The home inspector noticed that the lally columns in the garage were rusted at the top and they were supporting a main beam. The homeowner decided to call EFS for a solution to there rusted lally columns in their garage. Our Design Specialist recommended replacing each lally column with 4 SmartJacks.

Our installation team began by setting up temporary posts between each of the lally columns so they could remove them safely. After the old lally columns were removed the team then chipped 4 footings, one for each SJ. The team makes the footings 24"x24"x24" and installed rebar and engineered fill before casting the footing with concrete. Once the concrete footing has cured the team installed the SmartJacks over the footings and attached them to the main beam. The team made sure everything was level before encasing the SmartJack footing in concrete to lock it in place.

The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the SmartJack Installation.

Gutting Kitchen Beginning with Stabilizing Floors, Acton, MA

A homeowner in Acton, Massachusetts, had lived in their 1769 home since last October and decided they wanted to gut the kitchen and remodel it. The homeowners wanted to ensure that the old floors could handle the weight of the new counters and appliances so they wanted to have the beam and floor joists looked at by a professional. The homeowner decided to call EFS for a free inspection of the floors in the kitchen and our design specialist recommended installing 4 SmartJacks and CleanSpace into the crawlspace beneath the kitchen floor.

Before our production team arrived at the home, the homeowners had someone install a new support beam and joists under the kitchen floor. After the new beam and joists were installed, our team arrived at the home and began prepping to install the SmartJacks under the main support beam. Our support posts will add reinforcement to the beam so that the kitchen upgrades will be well-supported. The team began by removing some dirt in the crawlspace so they could create a footing for our SJs. They poured concrete into a 2' x 2' x 2' hole that was lined with engineered fill and rebar. The team dug 4 holes that were exactly the same and positioned them under the beam. Once the concrete was set, the team secured the SJ footing to the concrete and then secured the support column to the beam using our top bracket and heavy-duty screws. After the support posts were installed the team then began by installing CleanSpace in the crawlspace under the kitchen. The team used CleanSpace as a vapor barrier to prevent moisture and pests from entering the crawlspace.

The homeowners were happy that they don't have to worry about the floors under their kitchen because they were reinforced with a new beam and SmartJacks.

Homeowners Recently Learned About Harmfulness of Radon, Acton, MA

A homeowner in Acton, Massachusetts, recently had some friends tell them about a radon system they installed in their home because of high radon levels. The homeowners hadn't heard of radon before and did some light research on the effects of radon gas on the human body. After some research, the homeowners decide to call EFS for a free radon inspection of their home, and our design specialist recommended installing 2 radon mitigation systems with 3 extraction points into their home.

Our team began by drilling the 3 extraction points in the slab in the basement. The extraction points were installed far away from each other to collect as much radon gas as possible. The team used a core drill to make a clean cut through the concrete to make each extraction point. Once each extraction point was created, the team attached a PVC pipe to collect radon from underneath the home. The team will install two radon fans to the exterior of the home, so one extraction point will go to one of the fans and the other two extraction points will go to the other fan. So the team will connect the corresponding extraction points to the correct fans. Once the extraction points were connected to the radon fans, the team then used more PVC pipe to vent the radon systems above the roofline of the home. The team took the radon levels from 4.6 pCi/L to near 0.

The homeowner was very happy with the results of the project. They no longer have to worry about the health concerns associated with radon gas.

After the test is complete, Michael inspected the home to see if there are any cracks in the foundation or slab. The result of the test came back around 7 pCi/L which is above the recommended amount. Michael explained to the homeowner that a crack this size on a brick or block foundation wall can diminish the integrity of the wall. Radon Mitigation, Acton, MA

Moving to a new home takes a lot preparation and time. This is especially true when moving across the country. Jim G. was moving along with his family from Texas all the way to Acton, Massachusetts. After purchasing their new home, Jim was doing his best to ensure everything was prepared and ready for them upon arrival on move-in day. One of the items he needed to check off his list was installing a radon mitigation system, since the home did test high with levels more than 4.0 pci/l.

Jim reached out to Erickson Foundation Supportworks a little more than a month before their expected move-in date. Since he was out of state, he connected our team with his local realtor, who allowed our specialist to inspect the home and design an appropriate mitigation system.

The home had multiple zones in the basement area, and so two extraction points were required to properly mitigate the home.

Our installation team was able to complete installation of the proposed radon mitigation system in a single day, and do so before Jim and his family arrived. By the time the new homeowners moved in, they had peace of mind knowing the air quality was improved and the dangers of radon were eliminated.
