It's important to test and install the radon vent pipe in the most suitable location. The air flow must be strong and ideally the pipe is not an unpleasant sight in the basement or on the exterior of the house. This before and after shows the pipe cleanly installed in the basement.

The owner of a condominium in Salem, Massachusetts, had a dirt and brick floored basement and high radon levels. They wanted to reduce the radon levels and add poured concrete slab into the basement. EFS came to the building and created a plan to have the Radon Mitigation System installed before the slab, and then install a perimeter drainage system to then be covered by the new slab.

Radon Gas Mitigation Systems

Radon gas is colorless, odorless, and as cancer-causing as to//bacco and asbestos. Radon gas is produced from the decaying of rocks and soil and comes up from the ground into your crawlspace and basements. The way our radon mitigation systems works in a pipe collects the gases that are coming from the soil. The gas is then piped upwards where a depressurization vent forces the radon out from your home. Our radon mitigation system is completely compatible with the current waterproofing system in your home. Job Stories From Salem, MA
Sump Pump Replacement in Salem, MA

Nestled in the coastal town of Salem, MA, a picturesque family home experienced continued issues with basement flooding, a result of a failing sump pump that clearly had seen better days. Realizing the urgency to protect their home from further damage, the homeowner reached out to us, Erickson Foundation Solutions, keen to find a sustainable, long-term solution.

Upon contact, our dedicated Customer Care team swiftly arranged for a home inspection. Following a comprehensive analysis and consultation by our Specialist Tom Armano, it was evident that the situation called for not just a new sump pump, but a holistic basement waterproofing approach. We recommended installing our state-of-the-art WaterGuard system, the TripleSafe Sump Pump, and the IceGuard, promising effective water removal and protection against freezing, addressing the immediate issue and preventing future occurrences. Our production team, friendly, skilled, and diligent, jumped into action. The tired, old sump pump was replaced with the TripleSafe Sump Pump, ensuring three levels of protection. The WaterGuard system was seamlessly integrated into the perimeter of the basement, cleverly designed to capture water at entry points before causing any havoc. And as a precaution against Salem’s biting winters, the IceGuard system was also installed, guaranteeing that even in freezing conditions, water would still flow freely away from the home.

The outcome? A dry and safe basement, mitigating the homeowner's anxiety with visible and efficient results. Rigorous and meticulous intervention provided not just peace of mind, but assurance, knowing their foundational problem was expertly addressed. With Erickson Foundation Solutions, they found responsive experts committed to providing a remarkable experience and definitive solutions for ensuring their home stays dry, safe, and habitable for years to come.

Encapsulating a Brick and Fieldstone Crawl Space in Salem, MA

In the historic heart of Salem, MA, we recently had the privilege of restoring warmth and dryness to a charming home plagued by a cold, humid crawl space beneath it. The homeowner sought our expertise because the fieldstone and brick foundation, typical of the area’s age-old architecture, contributed to uncomfortably cold floors during winter and a notably moist environment year-round.

Upon the homeowner reaching out to our dedicated Customer Care team, we promptly arranged a comprehensive home inspection. Our System Design Specialist George Gouthier meticulously explored the crawl space, pinpointing the root causes of the humidity and chill penetrating the living spaces above. The proposed solution was twofold: installing our CleanSpace technology and the SaniDry Sedona system to lock out moisture and maintain healthier air quality. Execution was seamless. Our foreman Justin Broussard and installation team arrived, well-equipped to transform the underbelly of this Salem home. The CleanSpace liner was meticulously laid down, cocooning the crawl space to thwart moisture intrusion, whereas the SaniDry Sedona air system kicked into gear, extracting dampness to create a dry, cleaner air environment. Throughout the process, ensuring the work’s impact was only positive, our teams worked efficiently and left the area spotless upon completion.

The outcome spoke volumes—floors that once chilled the feet during winters warmed up, fundamentally transforming the homeowner’s comfort indoors. The dampness that once lingered was replaced by a freshness, ushering in a healthier home environment. Beyond fixing the immediate issue, these improvements also stand as an investment in the property’s longevity and warmth for years to come.

Humid Crawl Space Repair in Salem, MA

We recently had the pleasure of helping a homeowner in Salem, MA, who was dealing with an uncomfortably damp problem. The moisture in their crawl space was seeping up into the flooring, causing their carpet to feel perpetually damp. Understandably, this situation wasn't only uncomfortable but also raised concerns about possible mold growth and the long-term stability of their home foundation. Acknowledging the severity of their predicament, they reached out to us at Erickson Foundation Solutions, in search of not just a fix, but a solution that ensures such a problem wouldn't emerge again.

Our approach began with listening — meticulously understanding the issue from the homeowner’s perspective. Following this empathetic listening, we deployed a System Design Specialist from our Sales Team to perform a thorough inspection of their home’s crawl space. Upon confirmation of the humidity issues, we recommended a reliable fix involving the installation of CleanSpace and SaniDry Sedona. CleanSpace is designed to effectively seal off crawl spaces, barring moisture or external air from creeping into the home. It’s a durable, long-lasting solution that ensures crawl spaces remain dry and clean. Alongside, the SaniDry Sedona efficiently dehumidifies the air, maintaining the underhome environment in a moisture-free state fostering no growth for mold or mildew, and enhancing the overall air quality within the home.

By the time our production team meticulously installed these products, the transformation was evident. The result was not just about a crawl space that was now efficiently sealed and moisture-smart but about gifted peace of mind to the homeowner. Their home no longer harbored a damp carpet, and the added bonus was the investment in their home's longevity and their family's health.

Water Entering Basement, Salem, MA

A Salem, Massachusetts homeowner resides in a historical house built in the 1800s. In the mid-2010s, they had a drainage system put in their basement to combat unwanted water. Yet, water started entering another area of the basement, prompting them to call EFS for a free inspection. Our Design Specialist, Michael LaMalfa, suggested installing a TripeSafe, WaterGuard, SaniDry, and a feed line to collect any water entering the basement.

Our Installation Team, led by Branden Edwards, began by chiseling out concrete for the drainage and sump pump. Next, they installed the TripleSafe, WaterGuard, and feed line, and then mixed concrete over the drainage and around the concrete to secure them in place. After curing, the team installed our SaniDry to regulate the humidity in the basement.

The homeowner was very pleased with the outcome of the project and no longer has to worry about water entering their basement.

Condominium Tested High for Radon, Salem, MA

The owner of a condominium in Salem, Massachusetts, had tested the condo for radon. The results of their test came back around 30-40 pCi/L, which was high and they wanted to reduce that number for their tenants. The owner decided to call EFS for a free inspection of the basement of their condo. Our Design Specialist John met with the owner and walked through the basement with them talking about what their goals were. The owners would like to reduce the radon levels to a safe level, install a perimeter drainage system, and pour a new slab into the basement.

Our production team began by installing the radon mitigation system into the dirt-floored basement. The radon system will collect radon from beneath the building and collect in a PVC pipe and set out of the home by the radon fan. Next, the team set up our pre-slab WaterGuard. We laid 94' of Water Guard around the perimeter of the basement before pouring the new basement slab.

The homeowner was very pleased with everything installed. Erickson was able to reduce the radon levels, install a perimeter drainage system, and pour a new slab into the basement.

Settling on Second Floor, Salem, MA

A homeowner in Salem, Massachusetts, had lived in their home for 50 years and over the last 15 years they have noticed settling on the second floor of their home. In the last 2 years, the settling has gotten worse and the homeowner decided to call EFS for a free inspection and our Design Specialist Kenny recommended installing SmartJacks and a Supplemental Beam into the basement.

Our production team began by chipping out concrete in the basement floor so the team could install our big footings. Once the concrete was removed the team then hand-dug down enough so the footing can lay flush underneath the concrete. After hand-digging the hole, the team then poured in engineered fill and then placed the big footing over the fill. Next, the team installed the SmartJacks into the big footings and then attached the top bracket. Once the top brackets were installed, the team then connected the Supplemental Beam which spanned over 2 or more SmartJacks. The Supplemental beam helps support areas where there isn't a support beam. A Supplemental beam can be installed perpendicular to floor joists to add support in between the main beams of the home. After everything was installed the team covered the footing with concrete to eliminate any tripping hazards.

The homeowners were very happy with the results of the project.

Tested High Radon Levels, Salem, MA

This homeowner tested for radon using a home test kit, and found their levels were ranging from 12-15 pCi/L.  Our specialist, John Prince, conducted another test using a CRM device, and confirmed the results. John then designed and proposed a radon mitigation system to effectively lower these high levels of radon to a safer level.

Crew lead Scott Crandall installed the radon mitigation system on both the interior and exterior of the home. Within the basement, the pipe was cleanly installed beneath the slab so that the air was properly drawn into the system and not entering the home. He then also installed the pipe vent and fan on the exterior.

The homeowners felt safer in their home knowing the radon levels were lowered.
