Wanakee is a youth summer camp that has been in operation since the 1960's. Over the years the property and camp program have developed and expanded. In 2017, the camp built a new shower and bath house on the side of a hill on the property. While the building itself was unique and well built, within a few years the foundation it sat on was cracked and severely bowing in due to pressure from the saturated soils on the exterior of the wall. As water flowed down the fill, it smacked directly into the structures foundation wall, threatening to complete push it in and destabilize the entire building.
Erickson Foundation Solutions identified the problems with the situation, and installed a water drainage system within the soil along the foundation wall. The system diverted all the water around the building, and so the soil would no longer build up pressure and push against the wall with such high force. The other solution was to install 8 GeoLocks along the cracked and bowing wall, to fully stabilize it against further movement. Once these were in place, the production team also installed 8 Push Piers to permanently stabilize and slightly lift the foundation wall that settled.
Lastly, beneath the main beam of the bath house that ran directly down the center within the crawlspace, 3 SmartJack support posts were installed to lift and level the floor system.
With the structure stabilized, the camp no longer has to worry about the building's foundation failing or putting any of the campers at risk.
