Foundation Repair Photo Album: Vertical Crack on Foundation Wall, Fitchburg, MA

This homeowner in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, had purchased their home last October. Upon purchasing the home the previous owner disclosed that there was a crack in the back foundation wall of their garage which could be concerning. The new owners wanted to prevent further damage so they planned to fix the problem before it got worse. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection of their foundation. Our Design Specialist Mark Proctor met with the homeowner and inspected the foundation from the outside and inside the home. During Mark's inspection, he found the crack that the previous homeowners mentioned and found that the foundation was bowing and the wall would continue to bow if it was left without repair. Mark recommended installing 3 GeoLock Anchors to the bowing wall to stabilize the foundation wall.  Our Installation Team led by Eric Witham began by chipping out a trench in the garage slab that will hold one end of the GeoLocks. The concrete was removed and the team dug down about 3 feet so we could or Geolock Plates would fit in the trench. Then from the back wall of the garage foundation, the team drilled three small holes into the concrete and then sent galvanized rods through the holes and into the trench in the garage. Then on either end of the rod, the team installed a plate and then tightened the ends of the rod so the plates began to straighten the foundation wall. Once all the rods were tightened the team then backfilled dirt into the trench in the garage to cover the GeoLock Plates. After the trench was filled the team then mixed up concrete and matched the concrete to the rest of the slab in the garage.  The homeowners were very impressed with the work that EFS performed to their home. They no longer have to worry about the foundation wall at the back of their foundation bowing.
