Foundation Repair Photo Album: Rear Garage Foundation Had Multiple Cracks, Ayer, MA

A homeowner in Ayer, Massachusetts, had cracks on the back foundation wall of their garage. The home was built in 1995, but around 2010 the homeowner installed a pool in the backyard behind the garage. When the pool was being dug out the homeowner believes that's when the cracks started to form on the foundation wall. The homeowner decided to call EFS for a free inspection, and our design specialist recommended installing a Geolock System to the back foundation of the garage. The production team began by chipping out a trench in the garage floor. The team will remove a 3' wide trench across the width of the garage. The team then dug down 3-1/2' of dirt from the trench to have enough room to install the Geolocks. After the trench was completed the team then drilled 4 evenly spaced holes on the back foundation wall, so the Geolock rod could be pushed through the ground into the trench in the garage. The team used an impact gun to push the Geolock rods through the dirt and into the trench in the garage. Once the rods were poking into the trench, the team began fitting each rod with a Geolock plate on each end. Once all of the rods were equipped with a Geolock plate on either end the team began to tighten each rod until they could see movement in the foundation wall. After the team was done tightening the Geolocks, they then needed to backfill the trench in the garage. The team pushed all of the dirt back into the trench and tamped it down before pouring concrete over the tamped dirt. The team smoothed the concrete in the garage and made it level with the rest of the concrete in the garage.
