Vehicle Hit Foundation of Home, Manchester, NH
Challenge
The owner of a building in Manchester, New Hampshire, had their building and front stairs hit by a vehicle. The vehicle had caused significant damage to the building and the stairs. After the crash, the owner looked at the damage and contacted their insurance agency. The insurance looked at the damage and directed the owner to find someone to repair the foundation and they would reimburse for the repair. The homeowner would like to have the building fixed the correct way so they reached out to the foundation experts, Erickson Foundation Solutions. Our Design Specialist Victor inspected the building inside and out and recommended a solution for their problem.
Solution
Victor proposed installing an Auxiliary Wall and Rim Joist Insulation into the home to repair the damage caused by the vehicle hitting the building. Victor's proposal included 25' of Auxiliary wall to add support to the damaged portion of the fieldstone foundation wall and 13' of Rim Joist Insulation to cover the old spray foam insulation that was damaged.
Our installation team began by spraying the Rim Joist Insulation over the damaged section of the foundation and insulation. After the insulation was sprayed, the team then began installing 5 PowerBraces against the foundation wall to be used as supports for the Auxiliary Wall. The team installed an L bracket on the floor and an upper bracket into the floor system of the main floor. This will allow us to be able to adjust the PowerBraces before casting them inside the Auxwall. The next step was to pour a base that the Auxiliary wall will sit on. The team framed a base and then filled the base with concrete. They had to wait for the base to cure before they could install the rebar and forms on it. Once cured the team installed the forms and added bracing before they could fill the forms up with concrete. Once filled the team had to wait a couple of days before they could remove the forms. After a couple of days, the team returned and removed the bracing and forms. After they were removed the team trimmed off any concrete imperfections from the forms.
The owners were very impressed with EFS from start to finish.
