Foundation Problems Photo Album: Sloping Floors, Pepperell, MA
A homeowner in Pepperell, Massachusetts, has lived in their 1940s home for the last 40+ years. Over the last 2 years, they have noticed the finished work on their first floor begin to slope and crack. They had redone some of the first floor in the past but it was seeming like they would have to do it again. The homeowners were concerned about the floors having support issues. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection and our design specialist Liam inspected the interior of the home and the crawl space underneath the home. Liam found that the concrete supports under the home were allowing the floor to slope. Liam recommended installing SmartJacks into the crawlspace to prevent the floor from sloping further.
Our production team began by entering the crawlspace and set up the footings for the SmartJacks in the crawlspace. The crawlspace had been encapsulated with CleanSpace/ vapor barrier. The team first installed our big plate footings on a level surface in the crawlspace. The team had to cut out a small section of the vapor barrier to place each SmartJack footing. After the crew set up all of the footings they installed the SmartJacks and the top brackets to the support beams. Then the team made sure each SmartJack was leveled and then they tightened the top bracket to support the floor above. After the team installed new patches of CleanSpace to make sure the crawlspace was still encapsulated.
