Foundation Problems Photo Album: Gutting Kitchen Beginning with Stabilizing Floors, Acton, MA
A homeowner in Acton, Massachusetts, had lived in their 1769 home since last October and they wanted to gut the kitchen and remodel it. The homeowners wanted to ensure that the old floors could handle the weight of the new counters and appliances so they wanted to have the beam and floor joists looked at by a professional. The homeowner decided to call EFS for a free inspection of the floors in the kitchen and our design specialist recommended installing 4 SmartJacks and CleanSpace into the crawlspace beneath the kitchen floor.
Since EFS doesn't install flooring the homeowners had a carpenter install the beam and the floor joists for the kitchen. After the carpentry work was completed the team arrived and began installing the SmartJacks and CleanSpace into the crawlspace. First, the team began creating footings for our SmartJacks to rest on. The team created 4 holes that were 2' x 2' x 2' and lined with engineered fill and rebar. After the holes were dug and lined the team filled each hole with concrete and waited for them to cure before installing each SmartJacks. After the concrete was fully cured, the team attached the support post and the top bracket to the beam to ensure the beam could handle the additional weight of the kitchen remodel. After the SmartJacks were installed the team then began laying the CleanSpace into the crawlspace. The sheets of CleanSpace were connected by CleanSpace Tape to create a tight vapor barrier to prevent moisture and pests from entering the crawlspace. Once the CleanSpace was installed the team then cleaned up and the homeowners were cleared to install the rest of their flooring and begin installing their new kitchen.
