Push piers and a new foundation
Challenge
This early 1900's home had been gradually sinking over the years and was now out of level. Lifting the home would potentially do more harm than good, and so the goal was to stabilize the foundation walls and keep the home from sinking any further. The old foundation walls were also bowing and cracking due to the settling action, as they were composed of mainly brick and stone. It was also discovered that a portion of the front of the home was not supported by any foundation at all.
Solution
In order to permanently stabilize the home, a mix of push piers, helical piers and wall anchors were installed. Underneath the existing foundation, push piers and helical piers were used to prevent the foundation from sinking any further. Once this was completed, wall anchors were used also used to help contain the crumbling and bowing walls. A new foundation was also formed under the portion of the home which was not previously being supported by anything.
During work on this home, we had actually met the homes neighbors, who in the past had similar issues. They explained how they had opted to replace their homes entire foundation, which was actually a more costly route to take.
With the piers and wall anchors in place, this Cambridge homes foundation is completely stabilized and will no longer sink or bow.
