Roof of Covered Porch Was Settling, Dunbarton, NH
Challenge
The owner of a cabin in Dunbarton, New Hampshire, has owned their cabin for the past 8 years. Since purchasing the home the homeowners have always seen that the covered porch was sagging. Recently the homeowners have seen that the sagging of the roof has gotten worse and was looking into having it repaired. The homeowner called Erickson Foundation Solution to have them inspect the sagging roof. Our Design Specialist Victor met the homeowner at their home in Dunbarton to inspect their concerns. Victor did a full inspection of the roof and the porch on the front of the home to determine what has caused the sagging of the roof. He determined that the sagging of the roof was caused by the supports that hold up the porch and the roof was sinking into the ground. Victor recommended installing 7 Helical Piers to support the roof and the porch and eliminate the sagging in the roof.
Solution
The plan that Victor created was passed on to our installation team. The team prepped their vehicles and drove to the cabin up in Dunbarton, New Hampshire. Upon arrival at the cabin, the team assessed the roof and porch and created a plan of action. The team began by installing temporary supports to hold up the roof when the team removed the old supports. After the temp supports were secured the team began removing the old supports. The team removed the five old supports and then set up our drive head to drive in our Helical Piers. The team began driving in the Helical Piers into where the old supports were. Victor had recommended installing two extra supports to help distribute the weight across the new supports. Each Helical Pier was driven into the ground by our excavator with a hydraulic drive head. The drive head has gauges that will show us the PSI that we reach. We have a predetermined PSI that we set each pier to based on our load calculator. Once each pier was set to the correct PSI the team then cuts the pier to a few inches above grade and then installed our porch bracket. After the porch bracket was secured the team measured and cut 6x6 Pressure Treated posts to the correct size so they could fit in the bracket and then attach them to the roof. After all 7 of the supports were secured, the team then began removing the temporary supports to reveal that the roof was now straightened.
The homeowner was very impressed with the work that EFS performed. This was the straightest they have seen their roof since purchasing the home 8 years ago.
