Previous Customer Wants WaterProofing Installed, Fremont, NH
Challenge
A previous customer of EFS had SmartJacks installed in their basement in 2020 to repair some sagging floors in their early 1900s home. The house resides in Freemont, New Hampshire and they have lived in the home for about 14 years now. This past year they have noticed a lot of water entering their basement during rainstorms. The water collects at the front right of the home where the water comes off the roof and seeps through the bulkhead and foundation wall. As they did a couple of years ago the homeowner called EFS to take a look at their concerns.
Our Design Specialist Jason Vachon met with the homeowners and inspected the home to find out how to prevent the water from entering the basement. Jason examined the entire basement to find a solution for our customer. During his inspection, Jason had seen some sagging in the crawlspace that should be addressed. At the end of Jason's inspection, he presented a solution for the homeowners to prevent water and moisture from entering the basement.
Solution
Jason recommended installing:
- 47 feet of WaterGuard
- 1 SuperSump
- 33 feet of Trench Drain WaterGuard
- 1 IceGuard
- 20-foot Exterior Drainage Line
- 55 feet of CleanSpace Wall
- 1 Bulkhead Door Replacement
- 2 SmartJacks
Our Installation Team led by Gunther Billhardt and Eric Witham began by chipping out concrete around the perimeter of the basement. The team chipped out about 80 feet of the concrete so we could install our WaterGuard, TrenchDrain, and SuperSump into the basement to start collecting water that threatened to seep onto the slab. We removed dirt and debris to install the drainage and sump pump so the WaterGuard, TrenchDrain, and SuperSump would sit level with the basement slab. Next, the team plumbed the sump to the home's exterior where we installed our IceGuard and Exterior Drainage Line. The drainage line will carry water pumped out of the basement and ensure that the water cannot re-enter the basement. Then the team poured concrete over the drainage and around the sump pump basin to lock the system into place.
Attached to the perimeter drainage on the walls the team installed CleanSpace Wall to direct seepage into the perimeter drainage. This water will be guided to the sump and pumped out of the basement.
Next, the team removed the old bulkhead and replaced it with the new one the team had ordered. To make sure this bulkhead doesn't leak the team poured a new base for it to sit on and sealed all of the edges to create a watertight bond.
Next, the team moved into the crawlspace so we could install our two SmartJacks. To the left of the crawlspace entrance was a beam that was sagging. Our team installed two SmartJacks under that beam to stabilize it.
After our team installed everything we talked to the homeowner and walked through the basement and crawlspace with them to show them all of the work that was done. The homeowners were very happy with the results of their second project installed by EFS. The homeowners said they would continue to call us for any waterproofing or foundation concerns.
