Water Entering Storage Unit Business, Peabody, MA
Challenge
The owner of a Storage Unit Business in Peabody, Massachusetts, had been fielding complaints for the past two years about water entering paying customers' storage units. The workers at the storage place have periodically seen water puddling in the hallways at the front of the building. The units at the front of the building were the ones that were experiencing the water in their units. Most of the customers have personal items that were sitting on the ground and could get ruined. The owner of the building decided they need to find a solution to the problem so they won't lose any business and be able to protect customers' personal belongings. The owner decided to call EFS for a free inspection of the building. Our Design Specialist Tom inspected the affected areas of the business and recommended installing over 200' of WaterGuard and CleanSpace, 3 TripleSafe sump pumps, and 6 IceGuards to the front interior wall of the business.
Solution
Our team arrived on-site and began chipping out the concrete at the base of the wall in each of the units at the front of the building that was experiencing water intrusion. Once the team chipped out over 200' of concrete for the WaterGuard the team then installed over 200' of CleanSpace to the wall above the chipped concrete. The team then installed the WaterGuard perimeter drainage system and tucked the CleanSpace behind the flange of the WaterGuard to make sure no water can collect in the building. When the team was chipping out the concrete for the perimeter drainage the team chipped out three holes so we could install our three TripleSafe evenly across the front wall to collect and expel any water that entered the WaterGuard. The team installed each of the three TripleSafes. They connected each sump to the perimeter drainage system and then proceeded to plumb each of the sumps through the wall to the exterior of the building where we installed our IceGuard and exterior drainage line to expel the water away from the building.
If water does try to enter the building, as it has in the past, the CleanSpace and WaterGuard will collect any water that enters from the wall or beneath the floor and channel it into the WaterGuard system. The WaterGuard will then guide the water to the TripleSafe where the sump pump will send the water through the IceGuard on the outside of the building and expel it 20' away from the building via the exterior drainage line. This system will keep the customers belonging safe and dry all the time.
