A homeowner in Derry, NH recently moved into their new home and instantly noticed that their concrete front steps were sinking. This caused the top of the stairs to disconnect from the house, leaving a dangerous trip hazard. Looking for a knowledgeable company to provide permanently stable stairs, they reached out to Erickson Foundation Solutions.
Our Design Specialist, Matthew Robichard, inspected the stairs to understand why they were sinking. After noticing that weak soil was causing settling, Matthew recommended installing a new staircase on top of our EZ Posts. EZ Posts are a type of helical pier, which are drilled into the ground until strong, durable soil is reached. The precast stars were then installed to the posts.
Our installation team seal coated and cleaned the stairs after installation. The homeowner was thrilled with the results after going over the final walkthrough.
Concrete Steps Settling
The front stairs can be seen leaning forwards due to settling.
Stairs Detached from Home
Settling caused the front stairs to detach from the home, creating trip hazards and an ugly aesthetic.
Measuring How Much the Stairs Have Settled
The stairs sunk multiple inches.
EZ Post Installation
EZ posts were installed to prevent stairs from settling in the future. A galvanized steel post was installed on top of the posts to allow the stairs to evenly rest on top of them. The EZ posts were drove to 700 and 650 psi.
New Stairs
New stairs were installed with railings.
New Stairs Measured
The new staircase was installed an inch higher than where the last staircase met the house.
