Photo Album: Addition of Home is Settling, Billerica, MA
A homeowner in Billerica, Massachusetts, purchased their split-level home 27 years ago. In 2007, they built a large addition on the back of their home. They had no issues with the addition for about 15 years but 2-3 years ago they noticed the doors and window inside the addition were tight and were tough to open. The homeowner looked up potential causes for this issue and their research guided them to getting their foundation looked at. They called EFS for a free inspection of their foundation and our Design Specialist Jason Vachon met with the homeowners and examined the foundation. Jason looked at the window, doors, foundation wall, and other things inside the addition to determine the problem and find a solution. After he completed the inspection Jason concluded that the issue was that there was around 2" of settlement at the rear of the addition that has caused those doors and windows to become tight. Jason recommended lifting and stabilizing the foundation with Push Piers and PolyLevel.
Our installation team first exposed the foundation footing and installed 14 Push Piers around the 3 walls of the structure. After the piers were in place and were pushed by our hydraulic press to the proper pressure, we then tamped and backfilled the dirt over the piers. Next, the team moved into the basement of the addition so we could drill tiny injection portholes in the slab so we could inject PolyLevel below the slab. The team injected a PolyLevel into each porthole to fill any void below the slab. Once all of the voids were filled below the slab the team then plugged all of the portholes with concrete.
The team then cleaned up and took the homeowners on the final walkthrough to show them everything that was installed. The crew answered any questions from the homeowner before leaving.
