Photo Album: Foundation Wall Is Bowing, Newton, MA
This homeowner in Newton, Massachusetts, purchased their home a week ago. During the pre-purchase inspection, the inspector found one of the foundation walls was bowing. Nervous about the stability of the wall, the homeowner called EFS for a free inspection of their foundation wall. Our Design Specialist Kenny Calabrese met with the homeowner and looked at the foundation wall that they were concerned about. Kenny examined the foundation wall and looked around in the basement to gain a full perspective of the foundation of the home. After he completed his examination of the basement Kenny recommended installing an Auxiliary wall on the bowing foundation wall and then also installing 3 SmartJacks under the main beam in the basement to add some extra support.
Our installation team led by Neal Foley began by installing our PowerBraces against the bowing foundation wall. The braces were spanned every 3-4 feet across the total length of the 41-foot Auxiliary Wall. After the team installed rebar between each of the Powerbraces then started setting up our concrete forms. The team needs to reinforce the forms so that when we pour in the concrete the forms will not move. The team filled the forms up to the top and then waited for the concrete to cure. While the concrete was curing our team installed the 3 SmartJacks under the main beam. After the concrete was fully cured the team then removed all of the bracing and forms to expose the new Auxiliary Wall.
Before showing the homeowner what we installed the team cleaned up all of their supplies. The homeowners were very pleased with the installation of the new Auxiliary Wall and SmartJacks. They are confident in the foundation of their home.
Bowing Foundation Wall
The foundation wall was bowing and the homeowners are seeking a permanent fix.
Aux Wall Installation
The team first installed the PowerBraces against the foundation wall. Then fed rebar between the braces. After the rebar, we installed our forms and reinforced them with wood planks. We then fill the forms with concrete and wait for the concrete to cure.
Forms Removed
After the concrete was fully cured the team then removed the forms and trimmed off any imperfections.
SmartJacks Installed
We installed three SmartJacks under the main beam to add a little extra support to the floor system of the home.
