Photo Album: Mitigating Moisture and Preventing Mold, Derry, NH

A homeowner in Derry, New Hampshire, has lived in their home for over 25 years. They have added a few additions and upgrades to the home. One addition was installed on the back of the home. To install the addition they had to create new foundation walls and a crawlspace. About 8 years ago they started to smell mold down under this space. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection of their crawlspace. Our Design Specialist Peter Carstean met with the homeowner and looked in the crawlspace to find a solution. Peter inspected the crawlspace and recommended installing a CleanSpace Wall, FlexiSpan, and a 10-foot Buried Downspout.  Our installation team arrived at the home and began by installing our FlexiSpan over a 5-foot crack in the corner of the foundation. This was the area where most of the moisture was entering the crawlspace and causing the increased humidity. After we installed the FlexiSpan our team then began installing our CleanSpace over the floors and walls of the crawlspace. The system is a white sheet that will prevent moisture from penetrating the crawlspace from the walls or floors. To secure each sheet to the floors and walls we use a special white adhesive tape called CleanSpace Tape that will first hold the vapor barrier in place but also won't allow moisture through. After everything in the crawlspace was installed the team then exited and started to install our buried downspout. The homeowner was having trouble with water runoff collecting in their yard. We installed a 10-foot buried downspout to carry water further away from their downspout from their gutters.  After everything was installed our team walked the homeowner through what we installed. The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the project.
