Photo Album: Void Found Under Foundation, Natick, MA
A homeowner in Natick, Massachusetts, has been living in her parents' home since it was built in 1989. In 2009, the basement bathroom was renovated, and the contractor found a void under the slab. They hired a company to fill the void with cement, but the problem has only gotten worse over the past decade. The homeowners reached out to EFS for a free inspection of their foundation. Our Design Specialist Mark Proctor met with the homeowners to discuss their experience and goals regarding the issue. After examining the foundation, Mark found that a section of the concrete had cracked due to settling. He designed a solution that included installing 18 Push Piers, 80 feet of NexusPro Crack Repair, and PolyLevel.
Our installation team excavated the soil around the portion of the foundation wall that had settled and exposed the footing. They measured the wall to determine the pier span, chipped out concrete to create a section to attach Push Pier Brackets, and repeated the process 18 times. They used a hydraulic press to send the Push Piers down into the ground until they hit sufficient pressure. After installing all the piers, the team applied NexusPro crack repair to the cracked areas of the concrete before backfilling over the piers. The PolyLevel team then drilled port holes in a grid pattern under the slab. They injected PolyLevel into the void and lifted and leveled the slab back to its original position. The team used concrete to cover the port holes after finishing the task.
After completing the job, we showed the homeowners the work we had done. The homeowners were delighted with the results during the walkthrough.
