Photo Album: Make Basement Space Usable, Sandown, NH
A homeowner in Sandown, New Hampshire purchased their home about a year ago. During the past winter, they noticed water entering their basement sporadically, which made them hesitant about using the space for storage or any other purpose. To find a solution, the homeowner contacted EFS for a free inspection. Our Design Specialist, Anthony Brancato, met with the homeowners and examined the basement. After inspecting the area, Anthony recommended installing WaterGuard, TrenchDrain, TripleSafe, IceGuard, Exterior Discharge Line, and a SmartJack into the basement to make it a usable space for the homeowners.
Our installation team, led by Anthony LoCascio, began by chipping out the concrete around the basement's perimeter to create a footing for our SmartJack and sump pump. The team used jackhammers to break up the concrete into small, removable chunks. After removing the concrete, the team installed the perimeter drainage and sump pump. Once installed, the team plumbed the sump pump to the exterior of the home where they installed two IceGuards and a 20-foot Exterior Discharge Line. The discharge line would carry water away from the foundation so that water cannot re-enter the basement. After plumbing the pump to the home's exterior, the team then started installing the SmartJack in the basement. They removed dirt to create a footing for the SmartJack to rest on. The footing consisted of engineered fill, rebar, and concrete. Once the footing cured, the team installed our galvanized steel footing on top of the concrete footing and installed our SmartJacks to the beam above. Once secured, our team used the adjustable top bracket of the SmartJack to lift the floor system and stabilize it. The team then mixed up concrete and covered the footing of the SmartJacks and perimeter drainage, filling concrete around the sump pump basin. The team waited for the concrete to cure so that everything would be locked into place.
The homeowner could now use the basement as a storage space without worrying about water entering the basement and damaging their belongings.
