Photo Album: Water Leaking into Basement, Andover, MA
A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts had been living in their house for the past five years. They had a sump pump and drain installed in their basement, but the water was still collecting there. After several years of experiencing this issue, they decided to find a better solution to prevent the water from entering their basement. The homeowners suspected that the water might be coming in from the bulkhead near the existing sump pump. Consequently, they reached out to EFS for a free inspection of their basement.
Our Design Specialist, Nikki Burke, met with the homeowners and inspected the basement to find a solution to prevent water from seeping in. After the inspection, Nikki recommended installing WaterGuard, TrenchDrain, Drop Down Duct, IceGuard, SuperSump, CleanSpace, and CleanSpace Wall into the basement to prevent water from entering.
Our installation team began by removing the old sump pump and chipping out the landing it was installed on. After that, we installed perimeter drainage and our SuperSump. We then plumbed the sump pump to the exterior of the home where we installed two IceGuards and our exterior drainage line. This will carry the water away from the foundation wall so that it cannot re-enter the home.
Next, our team removed the wooden bulkhead stairs so that we could install our CleanSpace and Drop Down Ducts. The bulkhead had some steps that didn't build up to the top of the bulkhead. To ensure that water wouldn't collect at the top of the stairs, we installed the ducts to allow the water to flow down toward the sump pump. After installing the ducts, we installed TrenchDrain under the door of the bulkhead and some interior drainage to carry the water to the sump pump which was a couple of feet away. After the ducts and drainage were installed, we then encapsulated the bulkhead area with CleanSpace and CleanSpace Wall.
After encapsulating the bulkhead, the crew mixed concrete to cover the drainage and around the basin of the sump pump. Finally, the team cleaned up all of their tools and their work area. The homeowners were thrilled with the results of the project and no longer had to worry about water seeping into their basement.
Old Sump
The old sump in the basement has allowed water to seep into the basement.
Sump and Drainage Installed
The team chipped out the concrete then removed the old sump and installed our SuperSump and Perimeter Drainage.
TrenchDrain and IDL
To capture water that seeps into the bulkhead we used TrenchDrain to collect water and the interior drainage line to carry the water to out sump pump.
Bulkhead Encapsulation
The team encapsulated the bulkhead.
Concrete Mixed and Poured
The team mixed concrete and poured it over the drainage and around the SuperSump to lock everything into place.
