Photo Album: Updating Basement Supports in 1700s Home, Dunstable, MA
A homeowner in Dunstable, Massachusetts, recently purchased a home built in the 1740s and wanted to update and renovate it. They decided to start with the wooden supports in the basement and contacted EFS for a free inspection. Our Design Specialist Liam FitzPatrick met with the homeowners and recommended replacing some of the old wooden supports with 5 galvanized steel SmartJacks.
Our installation team, led by Eric Witham, began by setting up temporary posts and removing the old wooden supports. Then, concrete was chipped out to create footings for the new galvanized supports. Once enough dirt was removed, footings were installed, and SmartJacks were cut to the correct size. The supports were then installed, and the top bracket was secured to the main beam. The adjustable top was used to lift, level, and support the main beam. Finally, concrete was poured over the footings to lock everything into place, and the crew cleaned up their work area.
The homeowners were delighted with the results of the project and can now move on to more renovation projects within their home.
