Photo Album: Needs Perimeter Drainage Installed, Methuen, MA
A homeowner in Methuen, Massachusetts bought their house about a year ago and uses the basement as a workout and storage area. Although the basement already has a sump pump, the homeowner wanted to have an extra layer of protection in case water did come in. Therefore, they contacted EFS for a free inspection of their basement. Our Design Specialist, Liam FitzPatrick, met with the homeowner and inspected the basement to add an extra layer of protection. After his inspection, he recommended installing WaterGuard around the basement's perimeter and integrating it with the existing sump pump.
Our Installation Team, led by Gunther Billhardt, started by chipping out the concrete around the basement's perimeter with jackhammers. They then carried out the debris in buckets. Next, the team installed the perimeter drainage and coated it with crushed stone. In one area of the basement where the oil tank was located, our team installed TrenchDrain. This drainage was installed in front of the tank and then connected to the perimeter drainage once we gained access to the wall again. The Trench is set into concrete and has a grate inserted on top.
Regarding WaterGuard, a thin layer of crushed stone was poured over the drainage, and then concrete was mixed and used to cover the drainage to secure it in place. The concrete must be cured before the homeowners can return their belongings to their original locations.
The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the project.
Oil Tank Before
We recommended installing drainage all of the way around the basement. The team had to utilize two types of drainage for this basement. WaterGuard and TrenchDrain.
TrenchDrain Installed
The team used TrenchDrain to install around the oil tank because of the lack of access to the foundation wall.
WaterGuard Installed
For the rest of the basement where we had access to the wall, the team used WaterGuard.
WaterGuard Installed
After we installed the drainage and covered it with crushed stone the team then mixed concrete to lock the system into place.
