Photo Album: Garage Foundation Bowing and Deteriorating, Hollis, NH
A homeowner in Hollis, New Hampshire had purchased their parents' home about 10 years ago. Prior to purchasing the home, they had noticed that the foundation of the attached garage was bowing and the concrete was deteriorating. Now, 15 years later, they want to find a solution to prevent further bowing. They decided to call EFS to request a free inspection of their garage foundation. Our Design Specialist met with the homeowner and inspected the foundation. We recommended installing a new foundation wall on the right side of the garage, as the current foundation wall was leaning and deteriorating too much. We proposed installing a new masonry block wall instead.
Our installation team, led by Nick Carelli, began by removing the old foundation wall and setting up temporary supports to hold up the garage. Then, we poured a footing the length of the wall and waited for it to cure before starting to lay blocks. When the footing hardened, we started to lay masonry blocks and continued until we reached the bottom of the framing of the garage. After all the blocks were in place, we installed waterproofing on the outside to ensure that water could not seep through the new foundation wall. Lastly, the team backfilled the dirt against the foundation wall.
The homeowners were extremely satisfied with the results of the project and no longer had to worry about the foundation bowing and deteriorating.
