Photo Album: Cracks, Radon, and Moisture in Basement, Hampstead, NH
This homeowner in Hampstead, New Hampshire, had just purchased their home in May 2023. A couple of months after purchasing the home, they noticed cracks in the basement slab. The homeowner has asthma and was worried about radon gas passing through these cracks in their basement slab. They decided to look for a company that could address their concerns. They found Erickson Foundation Solutions and set up an inspection with us to test for radon and look at the crack in the slab. Our Design Specialist Bryan Barnard met with the homeowners and we conducted a radon test and a full inspection of the basement. The results of the radon test came back at 3.7 pCi/L, which isn't high. The levels are below the recommended amount suggested by the Nation Radon Defense, but any amount of radon could cause health concerns to arise or cause the homeowner's asthma to act up. During Bryan's inspection, he found cracks in the slab but also noticed a higher-than-normal humidity level inside the basement. Bryan recommended installing NexusPro to seal the cracks in the slab, a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier to control the moisture, and a Radon Mitigation System to lower the radon levels inside the home.
Our installation team led by Steve Dumais arrived at the home and began installing the radon mitigation system. The team created an extraction point inside the basement and then plumbed PVC pipe to the exterior of the home where we installed the fan and vented the system above the roofline of the home. After the radon system was installed the team sealed all of the cracks in the slab by using NexusPro. After the cracks were sealed the last item to install was the dehumidifier. We installed the SaniDry Sedona in the basement to control the humidity inside.
The homeowner was very pleased with the result of the project. The radon levels were lowered to close to zero, all of the cracks were sealed, and the humidity in the basement was now under control.
