Photo Album: Uneven Concrete Walkway Repair, Shrewsbury, MA
This homeowner in Shrewsbury, MA was concerned with the condition of the walkway at the front of their home. The main problem was how the concrete was sloping towards the home's foundation. This meant all rainwater would always flow towards the home, and so they were concerned this would eventually lead to waterproofing issues in their basement. Secondly, the concrete had settled in a way that created a trip hazard in the middle of the walkway. Friends and family visiting the home always had to be careful not to trip here, and shoveling the snow in the winter was also a pain.
Ripping out all the concrete in order to replace it and have the pitch just the way they wanted would cost the homeowner a lot of money. It would also disrupt their landscaping and be a week-long project, if not more. Our team designed and proposed a solution using PolyLevel to lift and level the uneven concrete and fix the problems the homeowner was facing. Utilizing this polymer foam solution meant there was no demolition of concrete, no mess, and the homeowner was able to continue to use their walkway within minutes of installation.
By the end of the one-day project, the concrete walkway was no longer pitched towards the home, and so water flowing towards the foundation would no longer be a concern. Our team was also successful in lifting the uneven sections so that the trip hazards were no longer a problem. NexusPro crack sealant, a silicone-based caulking, was also installed within all the joints of the concrete, which will add another level of protection against intruding water. With a level, flat walkway, the entrance to this home is now safe and protected.
Uneven Concrete
The uneven concrete was a nuisance and a trip hazard.
Concrete Leveling
The concrete at the base of the stairs was lifted to a level position, and the trip hazard was removed. No demolition of concrete was required, and the process left no mess behind.
Sidewalk Trip Hazard
Near the stairs on the walkway, the concrete slabs had settled unevenly, creating a one-inch trip hazard.
Concrete Joint Sealant
NexusPro was installed within all the joints along the walkway. This will help prevent rainwater from flowing beneath the concrete and eroding away more soil, ultimately leading to more settlement concerns.
