Photo Album: Brick and Stone Foundation Wall Was Bulging Inward, Georgetown, MA
This homeowner in Georgetown, Massachusetts, lives in a home that was built in the 1800s. The family has lived in the home for 60 years and the current homeowner wanted to pass the home down to the next generation. The current homeowner wanted to ensure the home was in good working condition with no major issues before passing it on to their child. About 10 years ago the homeowner noticed bulging from their brick and stone foundation. The homeowner was worried about the foundation collapsing so they called EFS for a free inspection of the homes foundation. Our Design Specialist John Prince met with the homeowner and inspected the basement. After the inspection, John recommended installing an Auxiliary Wall to stabilize the foundation wall and prevent further bulging.
Our Installation Team led by Nick Carelli began by measuring the length of the wall to determine how many PowerBraces we needed to install against the wall. After that, the team installed the PowerBraces against the foundation wall. Once the PowerBraces were installed the team then used rebar to bridge between them. Next, the team set up forms across the entire wall. To prepare the forms for the immense weight of the concrete we reinforced them with wooden planks. After we reinforce the forms we had a concrete truck deliver the concrete to fill the forms. After the forms were full, the team had to wait about a day and a half to two days for the concrete to cure. Once cured the team returned to the home to remove the forms and trim off any imperfections.
The homeowner was very pleased with the Auxiliary Wall installation. They are happy they don't have to worry about the foundation wall collapsing anymore and have gained the confidence to pass the home down to the next generation.
