Photo Album: Ground Water Seeping into Basement, Newburyport, MA

A resident of Newburyport, Massachusetts constructed their home in 1995 and soon afterward began noticing groundwater seeping into the basement. Despite having a sump pump installed during construction, the basement continued to flood over the years. After dealing with this problem for more than 25 years, they contacted EFS for a free inspection. Our Design Specialist, Keith Soper, assessed the basement and recommended the installation of a perimeter drainage system with crack repair to stop further water from seeping in.  Our Installation Team, under the leadership of Gunter Billhardt, began by chipping away at the entire perimeter of the basement with jackhammers. After creating a trench that measured 6 inches in width and 150 feet in length, our team installed the TripleSafe sump pump and laid out 150 feet of WaterGuard perimeter drainage. While some of the team members were busy installing the WaterGuard, others were plumbing the TripleSafe. We connected the sump pump to the exterior of the house and installed 2 IceGuards as well as a buried 10-foot Exterior Discharge Line to carry water away from the foundation. The team then proceeded to install FlexiSpan to a vertical crack that was allowing water to penetrate through it. We sealed the crack using a membrane and integrated the FlexiSpan system into the WaterGuard so that water flowing through the crack would enter the perimeter drainage. Once the cracks were sealed, the team mixed concrete and poured it over the WaterGuard System and around the basin of the TripleSafe to secure everything in place.  The homeowner was pleased with the results of the perimeter drainage system installation. They are no longer concerned about groundwater entering their home.
