Photo Album: Bowing and Settling Foundation, Melrose, MA
A homeowner in Melrose, Massachusetts, had noticed a large crack in their basement some time ago. Since noticing the crack it has only gotten larger. Now the crack spans vertically up the foundation wall. The homeowner can see the foundation wall begin to bow and become unstable. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection of their foundation. Our Design Specialist/ Project Manager Nate Erickson visited with the homeowners and inspected the foundation of the home. In Nate's walkthrough, he looked at the large crack in the foundation and determined that it was caused by the settlement of the foundation. Nate used a laser level to determine how much settlement there was. He found that there was 2" of settlement across the foundation. Nate recommended installing a combination of Geolocks and Push Piers to stabilize the foundation wall, and then using PolyLevel and Injection Crack Sealant to fill any void under the foundation and seal cracks in the foundation.
The team installed 4 Geolock to stabilize the foundation wall near that large crack, 17 Push Piers to eliminate the settlement, and PolyLevel and Injection Crack Sealant to fill voids and cracks under the slab and on the foundation walls.
The homeowner was thoroughly impressed with the work that EFS was able to do with their home.

The team installed 4 Geolocks and 17 Push Piers to stabilize the foundation walls.
Geolock Trench
The opposite ends of the Geolocks were installed into this trench to stabilize the bowing foundation wall.
Push Piers Covered
The team installed the GeoLocks and Push Piers to the foundation and then covered the piers with soil to conceal them.
