A homeowner in Hampstead, New Hampshire was purchasing a home and they had the home inspector walk through their home for an inspection. The inspector noted a crack in their foundation was concerning to them. The homeowners decided to call EFS for a free inspection of their home. Our Design Specialist Liam didn't think the crack in their foundation was any concern and only recommended sealing the crack to prevent water from entering and installing a crack monitor to ensure the crack isn't moving. But during Liam's inspection, he noticed a sagging beam in the garage and recommended installing 2 SmartJacks into the garage to support the beam.
Our team began by chipping out a small section of concrete so we could pour a footing for our SmartJacks to rest on. The team used rebar, engineered fill, and concrete to create a strong footing. The team had to wait for the concrete to cure before we could install the SmartJacks on top of them. After the concrete was cured, the team then installed the SmartJacks over the footing and connected it to the beam. Once the team attached the SmartJack to the beam they made sure everything was tightened and leveled before casting the footing of the SmartJack in concrete.
