Photo Album: Early 1900s Condo Needed Basement Supports, Cambridge, MA
A condo in Cambridge, Massachusetts, was built in the early 1900s and was experiencing some cracking drywall and rusted columns in their basement. The tenants think the cracks on the drywall were an eyesore and the floor felt weak. The manager of the condo decided to call EFS for an inspection of the supports in their basement. Our specialist recommended replacing 6 supports in the basement with 7 SmartJacks.
Our production team began by chipping out bases in the concrete for the SmartJacks. The team chipped out a couple of inches so they could eventually cover the SmartJack footing. After the concrete was chipped out, the team then began installing the SmartJacks and connecting them to the main beam. The team made sure each SmartJack was level before they secured the SJ to the main beam with heavy-duty screws. Once each SJ was secured to the main beam the team double-checked that each SmartJack was level then the team poured concrete over each of the footings to lock the SJs in place.

The owner of the condo believed that the old supports were the root cause of the drywall cracks and weak-feeling floors.
