Photo Album: Late 1800's Home Had Tree Logs as Supports, Wakefield, MA
A homeowner in Wakefield, Massachusetts, had lived in a late 1800s home for the past 20 years. Some of the supports in the basement were on tree logs that were supporting the main beam. The homeowner had noticed some sagging on the main floors of the home. The homeowners decided to call EFS for a free inspection, and our design specialist recommended installing SmartJacks to replace the tree logs.
Our production team began by setting up temporary posts around the basement to support the floors when they removed the tree logs. After the team removed the tree logs, the team then chipped out the concrete under where each tree was. The team chipped out a section of concrete that would allow us to install our big SmartJack footings. After the team chipped out the two sections of concrete, the team removed a couple of inches of dirt so the footing could sit underneath the concrete. The team ensured the SmartJack footing was level before installing the rest of the SmartJack. Once the footing was leveled, the team installed the SmartJacks to the main beam and lifted the floor to eliminate the sagging. The final step of the installation was for the team to pour new concrete over the footing of the SJ to lock them in place and eliminate any tripping hazards.
