Settling Home on Slab
Challenge
The homeowners of this house on a slab in Danvers, MA were ripping up their old carpets to install new flooring. Once the slab floor was exposed, the realized there was some extreme settling affecting their slab. The homes slab had visibly sunk up to two inches or more in some locations. Before replacing their flooring, the homeowners knew they had to stabilize their slab before the settling issue could get any worse. They also knew they wanted to avoid having to replace the slab, which would be a messy, dusty and costly solution.
Solution
Erickson Foundation Supportworks proposed PolyLEVEL as a solution to the sinking slab. PolyLEVEL would be a clean, cost effective way to solve the slabs sinking issue. On the first day of the PolyLEVEL injection process, 400 lbs. of material were used to begin lifting the slab in one section of settlement. As the polymer foam material filled the voids under the slab, high waters began to rise up onto the slab. In addition to injecting the material, the Erickson Foundation Supportworks production team also had to pump the rising waters out of the home. On the second day of the project, another 250 lbs. of material were used to complete the lifting procedure and completely stabilize the slab under the home. Overall, the slab was lifted up 2-3 inches in some sections, water under the slab was pumped out (preventing further soil erosion) and the home was level. The homeowners were very satisfied with the results and were able to continue with their new flooring project.
